Good News for Cheese Lovers!
Especially Blue cheese lovers
New research shows blue cheeses have potential to benefit gut health, metabolism and dementia prevention. A comprehensive review from Universite Clermont Auvergne found blue cheeses are a good source of bioactive peptides and essential amino acids, which are created when the penicillium mould grows within the cheese. The cheese is also a good source of beneficial bacteria which play a vital role of nourishing the bacteria in the gut, says the Hope Federation. It is also high in Calcium, protein and healthy fats. The saturated fats in cheese might be less dangerous that other kinds. The University of Cambridge found that people eating dairy were less likely to get cardiovascular illnesses compared to those who were eating the same amount of saturated fats from red meat. Another study found that fermented dairy such as cheese actually protected against cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. A 2016 study in Tokyo found the lactic acid bacteria indicate that fermented dairy products have preventative effects against dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease by reducing inflammation in the brain.
