From a travelling member....

"We have had last 2 days in Cassino where NZ battalions were involved in fighting. There is a huge war cemetery and Maori memorial. I am sending some photos in case any members are interested

"Sadly there was no ANZAC parade. There were lots of unknown soldier's graves. We placed flowers there. Very somber place"

Lest we forget ❤️

With ANZAC Day approaching, many people ask…

“Which side do I wear my family’s medals on?”

The simple rule is:

If they are your own medals — wear them on the LEFT side (over your heart)

If they belong to a family member — wear them on the RIGHT side

This small act shows respect — honouring both your own service and the legacy of those who came before you.

As we stand this ANZAC Day and say “Lest We Forget”, it’s important we also pass on the knowledge of how to remember properly.

Please share this to help others get it right this ANZAC Day.

Lest we forget.

2026 National RSA Poppy Day Friday 17 April

Our team of sellers will be at New World and Woolworths tomorrow, Tuesday 11 April and on Friday 17 April at Mitre 10, Paper Plus and opposite the old BNZ building in Arawa Street between 9am and 3pm. We will have paper poppies, wooden ones in 2 sizes and unique white car number plate surrounds for Anzac Day.

The usual supporters (cafes, restaurants, garages, Pohlen Hospital and the Medical Centre) around town will have Poppy Boxes and for the first time, Big Paw Pet Lodge, the Swimming Pools and Fitzone have joined the drive to support the 123 veterans in Matamata and sometimes, those in need throughout NZ. Boxes will be in local schools at the start of Term 2. Thank you for helping us make a difference to veterans lives.
