Seven reasons to sauna 🔥

The research on regular heat exposure is genuinely remarkable. Here’s what science says is happening when you sit in the heat.

1. Increases longevity. A 20-year Finnish study of 2,315 middle-aged men found those who sauna’d 4–7 times a week had a 40% lower risk of death from any cause compared with men who sauna’d just once a week. (Laukkanen et al., JAMA Internal Medicine, 2015)

2. Protects your heart. The same study found 4–7 sessions a week was associated with a 50% lower risk of fatal cardiovascular disease and a 63% lower risk of sudden cardiac death — again, compared with once-a-week users. Heat causes blood vessels to dilate and the heart rate to rise, similar to moderate exercise.

3. Sharpens the mind. A follow-up paper from the same cohort found men who sauna’d 4–7 times a week had a 66% lower risk of dementia and 65% lower risk of Alzheimer’s disease, compared with once-a-week users, over a median 20-year follow-up. (Laukkanen et al., Age and Ageing, 2017)

4. Lifts your mood. Heat triggers endorphin release and lowers cortisol. Small clinical studies have shown antidepressant effects lasting several weeks after a single session of whole-body hyperthermia.

5. Calms the nervous system. Regular sauna use is associated with improved heart rate variability — a marker of “rest and digest” activation. The post-sauna state is one of the deepest forms of nervous-system downregulation available without medication.

6. Eases sore muscles and joints. Heat improves blood flow, reduces inflammation, and eases stiffness. Multiple studies have shown sauna and thermal therapy can help with chronic pain, fibromyalgia, and rheumatic conditions.

7. Deepens sleep. The body’s core temperature drops sharply after a sauna, mimicking the natural temperature drop that signals sleep onset. Regular users consistently report falling asleep faster and sleeping more deeply.

Come and try it for yourself.

One of our best sellers.

There are some books you read… and then there are books that quietly challenge the way you see yourself.

Becoming Supernatural by Joe Dispenza is firmly in the second category.

I didn’t pick it up because I was searching for something “spiritual.” I picked it up because I was curious. Curious about the mind, about change, about whether we really are as limited as we think we are. What I didn’t expect was to sit there, page after page, feeling like someone was gently—but persistently—asking me, “What if you’re capable of more than this?”

This isn’t a light read. It’s not the kind of book you breeze through in a weekend and move on from. It demands your attention. It blends neuroscience, quantum theory, meditation, and real-life case studies in a way that can feel overwhelming at first. There were moments I had to pause—not because I didn’t understand the words, but because I was trying to understand the implications.

At its core, the book is about transformation. Not the surface-level kind we often talk about, but deep, internal rewiring. Dispenza argues that our thoughts, emotions, and habits are not just patterns—we’ve become them. And if that’s true, then change isn’t just about doing something different. It’s about being someone different.

That idea stayed with me.

What makes this book stand out is the way it connects science with possibility. It’s not just “think positive and your life will change.” It’s more structured, more disciplined than that. He walks you through how meditation, intention, and elevated emotions can literally shift your brain and body. Whether you fully believe every claim or not, you can’t ignore the underlying message: your mind is far more powerful than you’ve been using it.

But I’ll be honest—this book isn’t for everyone.

If you’re looking for quick motivation or simple steps, this might frustrate you. It asks for patience. It asks you to sit with discomfort. And more than anything, it asks you to question the identity you’ve grown comfortable with. That’s not easy.

For me, the most powerful part wasn’t even the science or the techniques. It was the quiet realization that maybe—just maybe—the version of myself I’ve accepted as “fixed” isn’t fixed at all.

And that’s both exciting… and a little unsettling.

By the time I closed the book, I didn’t feel like I had all the answers. But I did feel something shift. A small awareness. A sense that change isn’t as far away as it sometimes feels—it just requires a different level of intention than most of us are used to giving.

If you’re willing to go deep, to question, to sit with big ideas about consciousness, identity, and possibility, this book might stay with you longer than you expect.

And if you’ve read it, I’m genuinely curious—did it inspire you… or did it challenge you more than you were ready for?

You are here for a reason.

Not by accident. Not by chance.

And the contribution you make may be more powerful than you realize.

The world is moving through its own dark night of the soul. But this much is clear: Those who do the inner work and anchor themselves in Presence are helping anchor the new consciousness.

Meet Holly …

Holly has been an integral and much loved part of the Hub team this year. Today we say goodbye, ka kite anĹŤ, wishing her many blessings and all the very best as she embarks on her new adventure, moving to Raglan soon.

Holly is a gifted creator of delicious plant based kai for retreats and wellness events throughout the country, … also a seamstress and a gardener.

She is still looking for a place to call home in Raglan, so if you know of a little cottage, a self contained studio or a 3 bedroom house to share, please get in touch.

Feel free to send Holly a message if you have any leads on a house or would like to talk about catering for your next event… or to order some of her vegan sweet treats.
