After a week and a half in the Savaii jungle, we came back to civilization 😜 and stepped into Tasi Restaurant at Moanalei Villas in Upolu, Samoa.

Tasi. Dad’s name. Those are some big jandals to fill 😂👀

But they absolutely delivered. (Peep Dad slurping out of his bowl) When you hear about the credentials of Monica Galetti (Michelin-starred kitchens, MasterChef judge) you expect a high standard. But seeing it actually executed on home soil was beautiful. 🥹

They’ve built this crazy environment that balances sophisticated service with actual, warm island soul. We had plenty of laughs with the staff who were all amazing!

We ran the 7-course tasting menu & tried some of their signature cocktails.. I’m just going to call it right now: the Tasi Colada is the greatest piña colada on earth. 🥥🍍 I don’t care where you’ve traveled, you aren’t beating the Tasi spiced pineapple syrup.

They started us with focaccia (y’all know we love making our organic focaccia) with a chicken stock butter and it was a jaw dropping opener! The Seared Tuna with green papaya and mango gel, Red Snapper and the Beef Short Rib with burnt butter taro were sooo good! 🤤 Plus Mama’s vegan alternatives were on point! 💚

Seeing this level of hospitality in Samoa just hits different. It is proof that elevating your culture doesn’t mean you have to water it down or abandon your roots. It means taking what is already yours and refining it until it goes toe-to-toe with some of the best!

Proud and inspired to see the bar getting raised in the islands. Can’t wait to see more creativity come through 🇼🇸🏆🌺🌴

Embarrassment is an under-explored emotion.

We avoid it at all costs, but it is actually the exact threshold for growth.

F@$ # around and find out. We treat that phrase like a warning, but it is actually a mandate. If you never f@$ # around, you will never find out. If you never risk looking stupid, you never get the data.

To the afakasis (half-casts). To the ones who feel “too plastic” or not enough of their own culture to actually claim it: F the noise.

It is your blood. It is a fundamental part of how you came to be.

Embrace it, even if you don’t fully understand it yet. You don’t need a perfect vocabulary to have a right to your own ancestry.

Do not let the fear of what might happen guarantee that nothing happens.

You cannot learn to drive in a parked car. You have to get miles on the road. Showing up and being embarrassingly unfamiliar with your own culture is the first step to learning it.

Our family was deeply rooted here in Samoa a long time ago. Life happened, and the distance grew. Now, we are back on the ground, actively rebuilding that connection. We recognize this culture for what it actually is: an absolute blessing.

To our half-cast, quarter-cast and mixed-race brothers and sisters: stop shrinking. Stop apologizing for the parts of your identity you are still figuring out.

Embrace the entirety of who you are. We have way too much to learn from our ancestors to let pride get in the way.

Go make a fool of yourself. Put the car in drive. 🤍🔥
