Mangawhai Surveyors Junior Series

The final round of the 10-round Junior Series was held in miserable conditions on Sunday. Several of the boys had to withdraw after nine holes due to the persistent rain and cold wind.

Lachie Maher and Ethan Joplin (pictured with tour pro Jake Meenhorst) were the only boys to play all 10 rounds and took the lion’s share of the overall prizes in the series.

Lachie won the Stableford prize, with his best five of 10 rounds adding up to 188 points (37.6 average). He played consistently throughout the series and will be looking to improve on his 22 handicap in the coming months.

Ethan, the lowest-handicap player in the group, did exceptionally well to finish second with 182 points, as well as dominating in the gross prize category. He also won the Longest Drive and Nearest the Pin prizes on the day.

Both boys won a dozen Titleist Pro V1s and a cap donated by Jake for their efforts.

Third place overall went to Cameron Davies on 173 points, followed by Jaxon Godek on 172 points. Both received a sleeve of Pro V1s.

Many thanks to our sponsor, Adam Booth of Mangawhai Surveyors, who has supported the Juniors throughout the series.

The group of 8–10 boys will continue to develop their skills over summer with the Junior Tournament at Mangawhai on 15th November as their next goal.

Men's Match Play Championships - Round 1

The first round of the Club’s 9-Hole Men’s Match Play Championships was played on 1st October in fine but windy conditions, producing some outstanding matches and a couple of major upsets.

In Division 1, Lloyd Moors produced a dramatic finish against Leigh Corke, sinking a superb 20-foot putt on the final hole to secure victory. Glenn Viggars also caused an upset, overcoming 2026 Stroke Play Champion Brent Agnew in a tightly contested match that could not be separated after nine holes. Viggars held his nerve on the extra playoff hole to claim a memorable victory.

Steve Bolton and Malcolm Graham have also progressed to the Division 1 semi-finals, setting up two intriguing matches.

Division 2 is equally difficult to predict, with Ken Canton, John Bell, Mike Robinson and Ian Gradwell all progressing. Canton produced another upset, defeating the in-form Phil Tapp on the first playoff hole.

The semi-finals will be played on 8th October.

Zonta International is a global service organisation made up of volunteers working together to advance gender equality and empower women and girls worldwide. Our core focus is:

Ending Violence Against Women: Spearheading global awareness campaigns, such as the prominent "Zonta Says NO to Violence Against Women" initiative. (Orange doors on the Golf Club Fence in November)
Ending child marriage: Scarily, this happens in New Zealand, not just “overseas”
Climate Justice: Addressing how climate change disproportionately impacts women and girls worldwide.
Education Equality: Closing the gender literacy gap and providing scholarships, such as the prestigious Amelia Earhart Fellowship for women pursuing aerospace engineering.
Women in Decision-Making: Promoting equal representation for women in corporate, political, and community leadership roles.
