in 1999, MAX coffee roasters have plied their craft in the traditional way for over 10 years. Using the eclectic and iconic Otto Swaldo rotary roaster with no hi tech meddling, the craftsmen observe each and every batch of beans to ensure perfection. Located in the Bay of Islands, Northland, New Zealand we import only 100% Arabica green beans from all corners of the world – Brazil, Papua New Guine

a, Laos, Ethiopia and Kenya, then quietly turn them plump and smooth with the colour and sheen of melted chocolate. Some we use as single origin and others are combined to create blends which took over a year of tasting to perfect. The intensity of flavour is intrinsic in our blends – it’s captivating, addictive and worthy. The judges at the New Zealand Coffee Awards believe so too and honoured our unique blends with not only two Gold Awards, but also with the coveted Supreme Award.

Some coffees are just too good to be one-offs.

After an unreasonable amount of begging, hoarding, emotional blackmail, and people acting like we’d cancelled Christmas, we’ve made it official:

As of the 21st of May-
🖤 Black Forest is becoming part of the permanent line up. Rich, dark, chocolate gateau energy with blackcurrant, kirsch and warm spices lurking in the background like a very tasty villain. Pudding for breakfast? Go on then.
🍮 Karamea is here to stay too. Butterscotch up front, crème brûlée for the finish, amaretto doing something suspicious in the middle. So smooth it should come with a warning label. It now has one. It's called "permanent."
No more rationing. No more begging at the counter. No more staring at the sold out button like it personally wronged you.

From this Thursday they’re officially part of the furniture.
Which is great news for you.
And terrible news for your self-control. ☕

Keep your eyes peeled for when they go live to be the first to grab some of these ridiculously coveted beans.

Throwback to September last year when we took the plunge and adopted a roaster that needed a new home. Much like a rescue pup, it turned out to be one of the best things we’ve done.

After months of some serious scrubbing and sprucing to get this roaster up to the Max standard, we ripped everything out of the roastery and together with our team, we gave our roastery a proper glow up.

Now everything flows 1000 times better and there’s so much room for activities!

And we’re just warming up.

This dark roast struts in like it’s got a secret past and a playlist full of slow jams. Roasted to second crack for maximum punch, it hits you with big baker’s chocolate energy, dark spice swagger, and a full-bodied finish that lingers like a meaningful stare across the flat white foam.
