Righto, we’re a little late to the party this week, but your Weekend Wind Up has finally arrived! 😆

Last week was another busy one at The Kiwi, so let’s get you caught up before we launch headfirst into this week. 👇

📕 Monday we had the pleasure of hosting Southland Riding for the Disabled for their Jingo fundraiser. Thank you to everyone who came along, bought cards, got amongst the raffles & helped support a great local cause! ❤️

📕 Wednesday it was Royal Southern Stars Marching’s turn to take over Jingo, with another great crowd getting behind them!

📕 Then Saturday the Stags headed north to take on Canterbury at One NZ Stadium. The boys kept themselves in the fight and pulled it back to 27–21 late in the game, before Canterbury crossed at the death to finish it 34–21. Not the result we wanted, but there’s still one more chance to get behind the boys at home! 🦌

Now that you’re caught up, here’s what’s happening THIS WEEK! 👀

👉 TONIGHT: It’s your regular Tuesday night Jingo! 🎶
And enjoy your last taste of the usual stuff for a while, because NEXT Tuesday OLD SCHOOL OCTOBER officially kicks off! 🕺 First stop: THE 70s! Get ready to take Jingo back a few decades.

👉 WEDNESDAY: We’re back fundraising, this time for Phoenix Marching. Be here from 6.30pm and get amongst it while helping support another local group. ❤️

👉 THURSDAY: Handle Club meat raffles kick off around 5.30/6ish, then Bruno is back from 9pm to buck you up. 🐂

👉 FRIDAY: It’s a BIG one! First up, the Battle of the Mainland as the northernmost and southernmost teams in the competition collide! 🦌
The Southland Stags take on Northland at Rugby Park at 7.10pm for their final regular-season game of 2026. One last chance to get behind the boys at home. Antlers Up Stags Fans!
Then from 9.30pm, we turn the clock back to the 2000s for the FIRST qualifying round of our Old School October Karaoke Competition! 🎤 This is your first chance to sing your way into the Grand Final and put yourself in contention for that $500 CASH first prize! 💰

👉 SUNDAY: Want to go home with $5k?. 👀💰 After weeks of $1,000 draws, we’ve finally made it to the $5,000 GRAND PRIZE DRAW for the Great Pub Cash Giveaway!

This week’s wind up feels a little less lively than usual, so we’re going to leave the rest until tomorrow.
Today, this one’s for Burnsy. ❤️

Last week we were incredibly saddened to hear of the passing of Tony Burns, although around here, most of us simply knew him as Burnsy.

And Burnsy certainly left us with a few stories to tell.

He represented The Kiwi as part of our pool teams, lent us his golf cart whenever the ILT Golf Tournaments rolled around, had a crack at riding Bruno, pulled off some absolutely flawless dance moves on a Friday nights and, on the odd occasion, may have even left a little rubber behind in the car park. 😏

He was a character, a familiar face and part of the fabric of this place and The Kiwi just won’t feel quite the same without him around.

To Burnsy’s family, friends and everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him, our thoughts are with you. ❤️

A service to celebrate Tony’s life will be held at Avenal Park Chapel, 75 Fox Street, on Tuesday 29th September at 1pm.

Thanks for the laughs, the stories, the golf cart, the dance moves and the memories, Burnsy.

There’ll always be a spot for you at The Kiwi. ❤️

After a massive weekend we feel like we need a de-brief, so here's your weekend wind up from last week (Lock in, she's a long one):
👉First off - welcome back Jesse!! We missed you!!
📕Last week on Monday we had the pleasure of hosting the Atuitui Māti Marching fundraiser, it was a great night, with plenty of laughs & prizes won!
📕Jingo was packed on Tuesday, as per usual - keep an eye out for the Old School October events 👀
📕Thursday you got bucked up with Bruno the mechanical bull.
📕Saturday was a big afternoon for the finals of the Southland Otago Axemen’s Centre Indoor Woodchopping Comp. Congrats to the winners: Lucy Eason, Kailey Yeoman, Matt Peterson, Tobias Crighton, Mark Ellis & Rodger Erskine. Lock this one in for 2027!
📕Then Sunday.... can we just forget about it?😅 We had a fantastic crowd of dedicated followers in to watch the games either way.... next year will be our year, Up the Wahs!
