ESPRESSO CLASS

We will teach you the fundamentals of making a good espresso shot, that you can transfer to what ever machine you have at home.
If your home coffee is just not hitting the spot, this is a great place to come, ask questions and learn all the hows and whys with one of our experienced baristas.

This is also a great entry level class to do if you have been thinking about upskilling, and entering into the coffee/hospo industry.

3 easy fixes you can do now to improve your coffee at home.

1. Better coffee beans.
If you like the coffee from your local cafe, there's more chance you will be able to have more of a similar result at home by using the same coffee.
Buying coffee beans from them also means you're supporting local hospitality...and that's going to help them stick around for longer.

2. Use filtered water.
With larger amounts of minerals and chlorine found in unfiltered water, it can cause harsh and bitter flavours, as well as creating more clogging of your equipment.
Your coffee will be cleaner and sweeter with filtered water, and your machine will last a bit longer.

3. Clean your machine.
Look up your make and model and learn how to properly clean your equipment and how often.
Coffee oils can build up need to be cleared. some parts daily, some weekly, and descaling depending on water hardness, anywhere between 3-12 months.
How often you use it is also a contributing factor.

Over the weekend we said haere rā to Ryan from of Uncle Espresso Bar and welcomed Ariya as the new owner.

Same coffee, same community, new face.

For those who don't know, Ryan has been a big part of our Firsthand family, not just as a wholesaler for the last few years, but as staff back in the early Firsthand days, when we just had .
He then became the face of our second site, .coffee after opening and had a big part in creating the culture there.

You'll learn all the fundamentals of how to pull a good shot, what to look for when you taste it, and walk away with hands on experience, and skills to take home to your home machine.
