A reminder that in Napier City, Wairoa, Hastings, Central Hawkes Bay and Tararua Districts, Fire and Emergency NZ have enforced a total ban on ALL outdoor fires AND fireworks from midday yesterday until 8am on Monday 27 October.
People planning outdoor activities over the long weekend should remember that all campfires and bonfires are also prohibited.
The use of gas BBQs during a power outage in residential areas as a means of cooking is permitted. BBQs must be used away from vegetation on a flat, solid surface and supervised at all times.
We recognise that letting off fireworks as part of Diwali celebrations is significant and appreciate the community following the ban on fireworks at this time. If you see or hear fireworks being used it can be reported via the Police non-emergency line – Call 105. If Fireworks start a fire, call 111 and ask for FIRE.
Hawke’s Bay Community Risk Manager Nigel Hall says they need the public’s help to ease the load on their firefighters.
"Anyone who has had an outdoor fire since the beginning of September is asked to go and check today that it is completely out,"
"If you see any sign of heat or smoke, please act immediately to fully wet down the site. If this is not possible, call 111 so that firefighters can assist."
