Thanks to all of you who donated to the Givealittle page and donations from the Birdwoods Dog Show last year which have now been put to good use. Four island female village dogs were de-sexed on Sunday by Dr Caty Swaine who came to Santo for a few days. It was a joint project involving boat rides taxi transfers and a team effort resulting in four less litters of pups and healthier dogs and an educational value attached. Thanks also to Animal Care Havelock North for the topical treatments at cost and Louise Westra for her ongoing animal advocacy on Aore Island. Small steps by kind people.
Who would like to support another Birdwoods Dog Show?💚🌴🐾🐕

Birdwoods has always been about people. They are at the heart of everything we do, and some of the most important are those who work alongside us every day. They are the team who create the Birdwoods experience that so many of you know and love.

Recently we officially farewelled our Head Chef, Wendy Barnett, whom many of you will know, or certainly know through her delicious, honest, wholesome and flavoursome food. Wendy has been with us for 12 years, almost to the day, and much of the reputation we are so proud of can be attributed to her. It is hard to get to the top, and even harder to stay there.

Being a chef is one of the toughest professions. They are a special breed, with an incredible work ethic, able to work under immense pressure for long hours on their feet, while consistently producing food of an exceptionally high standard. (And yes... it really is true that we had to replace the kitchen linoleum because Wendy had literally worn a path through it!)

Wendy has made exactly the right decision to retire and spend more time with her parents, her children and grandchildren, to look after her health, and to enjoy many more travel adventures with her partner, Neville. As I write this, she is somewhere enjoying the Football! World Cup on a very well-earned holiday.

So, a very big thank you, Wendy. You will be greatly missed. Bruce and I are incredibly grateful for your loyalty, friendship and hard work over the past 12 years. You have been a huge part of the Birdwoods story and leave behind a wonderful legacy and a strong kitchen team, now in the capable hands of our new Head Chef, Werner.

Travel safely, enjoy this exciting new chapter, and thank you for everything.

If Wendy has ever cooked you a memorable meal, been part of a special celebration, or helped make your Birdwoods experience one to remember, we'd love you to leave her a message below. We know she'll enjoy reading them on her travels. ❤️

With love and gratitude,

Bruce, Louise and the whole Birdwoods Team xx
