Otoko espresso has been operating in the Haast township since 2007 serving consistently good coffee and delicious local fare. Coffee beans are ordered in small batches to maintain the freshest pour and
by using fresh produce, bakery buns, the best cuts of meat, locally caught whitebait mixed with free range eggs, the food is pretty good too. Otoko espresso’s look, a little tin hut, was inspired b

y the owners father who was a government deer the 1950’s and 60’s. An information panel and photos hang on the side of the hut for you to read while you wait for your coffee or food. Towed by a 1967 short wheel base Landrover painted blaze camo, she’s a hard rig to miss. You’ll find her parked up in the Haast township between October and April most weekdays and the odd weekend if the weather permits. Safe travels and see you in town on the way through �

My wee mate Duffer, as in Silly Duffer.
He turned up about 5 or 6 yrs ago with a gaping hole in his neck. Over the years it's closed up and feathers have grown back but you can still see where it was.
Anyway, wee mate turns up most days every season for a feed... but the rest of the mob have now cottoned onto his free lunch as well.
We decided Silly Duffer was a pretty good name as he spends most of his time squawking and chasing the other gulls instead of eating food thrown to him. It's a rather comical act to witness as while he's storming around screeching angrily, he of course misses out on the food.
Silly duffer!

Merry Xmas everyone, safe travels to your families for the holidays and team Otoko (& maybe Duffer) will see you sometime after Boxing day :)
