We serve wholesome, homestyle kai, using nutrient rich ingredients, made from scratch– with a twist. Our flavors bring a modern edge, inspired by many years of travel, a deep love for community, and meaningful conversation. Food is our love language; and we prefer the kind that nourishes both puku and soul. We’re bold enough to believe that our humble kitchen has the power to bring wellness to our
communities. And while we’re the kind of humans that like to go against the grain, you’ll never ever see us serve artificially grown or chemically loaded kai. In Matt’s Kitchen, we serve generous portions, eat sticky bbq ribs with our fingers, and welcome elbows rested on tables. When you dine with us, you’re more than a customer— you’re a guest in our home, and it’s important to us that you feel at home here. We like to keep our menu simple. Just like grandma has her staple meals, we do too– a daily burger, bowl and bbq. The way we fill those delicious vessels will change according to seasons and local availability. That means today's pulled pork burger might be switched to a hearty beef burger tomorrow. Or yesterday's chicken and kūmara salad bowl might be swapped out for a green curry on rice today. While the menu in our wharekai shifts and changes, there are elements of our business that will always remain the same. We’re more than just a kitchen. Beneath the flavors of our kai; you’ll find a set of values and principles that guide everything we do:
We’re conscious about the entire whakapapa of the kai we serve. Not only where we source it from, or the way it’s cooked, but the way it nourishes your body too. We believe that food has the power to heal our people and our planet. While we love to go against the grain in some respects of our business, Matt’s Kitchen will always serve quality food, and never the kind grown from artificial sources. We have a vision of improving the holistic wellbeing of our community. We’re real about it; there are time, money and knowledge barriers to finding wellness solutions that work for everyone. We believe that even from our humble kitchen in semi-rural Foxton that we can contribute meaningfully. We do it by supporting local suppliers, hiring local, and working in partnership with other holistic health providers to deliver community services. We live for a world where everyone wins. We know that when it comes to the wellbeing of our people there is no one size fits all. That’s why we’re the kind of business that will design a catering solution to fit the local rugby clubs budget, develop meal solutions that serve our manuhiri both young and old, and keep in mind the real barriers to wellbeing that our community faces. We’re a simple kitchen that understands the power of community. We’re inviting you to take a seat at our table. To fill your puku and souls in a place that feels just like home. To dine in Matt’s Kitchen. You can join us for lunch or dinner at the Foxton Hotel on Tuesday and Thursday nights. And if you’re local— we’ll see you at the Bottom.
