Eltham Lions Club Annual Trolley Derby tomorrow, Sunday 25 October. 10 am start for trolleys with inspection and drivers meeting first. Food and drink available . Signs will be on the main road and Dalziell Road intersections.
Weather looking like it "should" be ok, keep an eye on this page for updates. Van packed with trophies and helmets and trolley's on trailers ready to go.

"A Masquerade" is a variety show hosted by Stratford Singers at King's Theatre Stratford, following on from the success of last year's "Hear the People Sing".

Performances are Saturday 24th October 7.30pm and Sunday 25th 2pm. Adults $30, seniors $25, youth $10.

Wynne and Paul are again performing a bracket of songs, and so is son Daniel. Andrew and Kirsten London return also.

🐦 Great news for Rotokare’s hihi!

Hihi Ranger Erin has finished her latest survey, recording an incredible 90 hihi. It’s a fantastic sign that the population is growing. 💛

But with breeding season approaching, these yellow sugar fiends are racing through their sugar water, and our raw sugar supplies are running low!

Can you donate a bag of raw sugar? Every bag helps us keep Rotokare’s hihi fed through the breeding season and supports the next generation of chicks. Thank you for helping these special manu thrive!

Eltham Farm Supplies (178 Bridge St) have kindly offered to be a drop off point for raw sugar donations (thank you Joe, and the team at Eltham Farm Supplies). Today (1 October 2026) 4 new road rules have become law. Here's what they are:

The aim of the new rules is to make people’s travel safer and better reflect how people already use the roads. From today 1 October:

• Kids 12-years-old and younger can now ride their bikes on the footpath. Parents and caregivers are now also allowed to ride with them. Keep an eye out for kids on bikes when entering or leaving driveways.

• You’ll now be able to ride your e-scooter in cycle lanes. This’ll mean e-scooter riders can get to where they’re going more efficiently. The speed limit still applies to e-scooters, and we highly recommend that you wear a helmet when riding.

• There’s now a minimum passing gap of 1.5m when passing people riding bikes, horses or e-scooters that are travelling in your lane and heading in the same direction as you. This only applies to people driving motor vehicles or riding motorbikes. The 1.5m passing gap doesn’t apply to parked cars or people that are travelling in a different lane to you. If it’s not safe to pass, then you’ll need to wait and pass when it’s safe.

• Everyone is now required to give way to buses that are signalling that they’re leaving bus stops, the roadside or bus lanes on roads that’re 60km/h or less. This new rule allows for buses to safely re-enter traffic.

Earlier this year we asked for your feedback on these changes. We passed your feedback onto the Minister of Transport – there was broad support for the changes the Government proposed, and the Minister decided on the above.

A big treat for all of us in Taranaki! 🎶

Next Friday, 25 September, Daniel Bowers-Mason will be playing a solo gig at Mike’s Bistro and Taproom on Devon Street East, New Plymouth, from 8pm to 11pm, with acoustic guitar and vocals.

Expect mostly easy listening covers, with perhaps one or two originals as well.

The restaurant kitchen is open from 5pm to 10pm, so if you’d like to make an evening of it, book a table and specify the time you’d like to dine.
