Dear Dunedin family,
After almost two decades filled with memories, hard work, and love, we would like to share some emotional news with you all. Zaika India will be closing its doors on the 5th of July 2026.
This decision has not just come because we are starting something new — it is also the beginning of a new chapter for our family. Dad recently turned 65, and after many years of long days, late nights, and putting his heart into serving the Dunedin community, it is time for him to slow down and enjoy the next stage of life.
Our journey started back in 2006 when Dad moved to Dunedin and opened Indian Spice in Roslyn Village. Like many immigrant stories, it began with a dream, hard work, and the hope of building something special.
In 2009, Mum joined Dad after moving from India, and since that day they have worked side by side — through the busy nights, early mornings, challenges, and celebrations. Together, they put their hearts into this family business and created something we will always be proud of.
With the incredible support from our customers, Indian Spice grew and later became Zaika India. In 2018, another dream came true when we purchased our own building and moved to Highgate, where Zaika became more than just a restaurant — it became a place full of friendships, laughter, conversations, and memories.
The most beautiful part of this journey has always been our customers. Many of you have been with us for nearly 20 years. We have watched families grow, children become adults, and customers who once walked through our doors as strangers become friends who feel like family.
Dunedin, thank you for accepting our family, supporting our dream, and showing us so much love over all these years. Every order, every conversation, every smile, and every kind word has meant more than you will ever know.
Although Zaika India is closing, our family’s journey with this amazing community is continuing. The Zaika family is excited to start a new chapter with our upcoming mithai shop/indian sweet and bakery. We hope to bring you the same passion, care, and love in a new way — and we hope to receive the same support that you have blessed us with for all these years.
