A true Kiwi classic has made its way back to the table.

We're now serving 750ml Speight's "Big Bots" – bringing back memories of the iconic swappa crates that have been part of New Zealand history for generations.

Today we pause to remember Sir Sam Neill, a true New Zealand icon whose work touched audiences around the world.

Among the many treasures that make up Best Cafe's history is this signed menu, left by Sam during a visit to Best Cafe in 1991. While we don't have a photograph from that day, his handwritten message has been proudly preserved on our wall ever since.

For almost a century, Best Cafe has welcomed locals, visitors and many familiar faces through its doors. It's these little pieces of history that remind us every signature has a story.

Thank you for visiting us all those years ago, Sir Sam.

Rest in peace, and thank you for the memories. ❤️

🦪 Some traditions are worth travelling for.

John Gillies and Jack Hamilton made the trip down from Oamaru recently, and like they always do when they're in Dunedin, they stopped in at Best Cafe for their Blue Cod and oyster fix.

For years, we've welcomed locals, visitors, families and friends through our doors, and it's always special to see familiar faces return time and time again.

Thanks for making us part of your Dunedin visits, John and Jack.
