Last week we had the wonderful PenNaish come in and show her whānau’s fabulous wines from Black Estate and talk about their kaupapa and show the different vineyards effects on the different wines. We are very fortunate and they have pulled a some old treats out of the cellar for us too. Damsteep 2019 Pinot Noir is on the Coravin now by the glass.
I first came across Black Estate working at Annie’s Wine Bar a very long time ago. When Paul and I came back to Aotearoa to open our first restaurant in Akaroa in 2009, it was delight to discover Pen’s folks were living there. A highlight of the week was phoning Rod, sitting in the sun listening to birdsong chewing the fat and of course ordering wine and finishing the chats when he dropped it off.
What began as a business relationship, has blossomed into a valued friendship (typical GenXers though, few photos of us but I found an old one!!) Thanks Black Estate for being who you are and your fab wines
