JJ and I have always been coffee snobs, so when it came to choosing who'd supply our caravan, we knew straight away it wasn't going to be the typical beans you get in a lot of cafes — we wanted something we'd actually want to drink ourselves. That's how we landed on Toasted Coffee Roasters, and the moment we tried them we didn't look any further.

We ended up going with their Method Blend — chocolate, roasted almond, a touch of hazelnut, built on Brazilian beans.

The owner and the team there have been so good to us we genuinely don't know how to thank them properly.

If you're ever out in Wairau Valley or Rosedale, go give one of their café’s a try. They have so many more blends to try!

A question we get asked a lot: where's our "regular" spot? Where are we normally parked?

Truth is, we don't have one. Two reasons why.

First, Alfie's a busy guy and in high demand. We love doing private and public events, so he's booked out for everything — coffee the morning after a wedding, school fundraisers, corporate conferences, and our favourite, markets and family events. That makes it hard to commit to one spot.

We'd genuinely love to have a regular spot though — somewhere we could pour a good coffee for the same community on their morning walk or lunch break.

Which brings us to reason two: Auckland Council is very difficult to deal with, and we'll say that openly. We've tried more than once to set up near the beaches (nowhere close to an existing cafe, because we don't want to take business off anyone) and got turned down, multiple times, for different reasons. When you do get approved, they charge an arm and a leg in "rent" to stand there — and half the time it's not even a popular spot.

So — when we find the right spot on private land, we'll think about parking there a few days a week. For now, you'll have to follow along to see where we go next.

Real Fruit Tropical Smoothie and Regular Cappuccino

Alfie's small for a reason — that little body is exactly why he fits in spaces a bigger van never could, and honestly, it just looks better too. But small also means small freezer space, so we can't stock fresh fruit for smoothies the way a full kitchen could. So our smoothies are made with real fruit pulp instead of fresh. Still real fruit, just a smarter way. Pair it with a cappuccino — our favourite combo.
