Hauled by heritage locomotive DBR1254 and DC4818 travel in lovingly restored heritage coaches. One trip travels to iconic Mt Maunganui / Mauao The other travelling from harbour toward the Kaimai foothills.

Both journeys depart from Tauranga (Dive Crescent Carpark / The Strand area) and offer a relaxed rail experience that’s perfect for families, and anyone keen to see the Bay from a different perspective.

Enjoy a scenic return trip from Tauranga’s waterfront across the Matapihi Rail Bridge and causeway, through Matapihi and on to Mt Maunganui, arriving beside the Port of Tauranga and Bay Oval before returning to the city.

🚆 Option 2: The Kaimai Coast Express
