There’s something rather appropriate about enjoying a Waiheke Island w**e while looking back across the Waitematā.

Frenchman’s Hill Estate w**egrower Luc Desbonnets established his vineyards to produce small-volume artisan w**es expressive of their individual Waiheke sites. FHE describes Luc's approach as matching varieties to particular micro-sites to create his own “unique earth expressions.”

We currently have two aboard:

Viognier / Sauvignon Blanc

FHE Pukeke
Syrah / Cabernet blend

International Talk Like a Pirate Day is officially underway at Swashbucklers - and as you can see, the crew understood the assignment. 😂

Some may have embraced it a little more enthusiastically than others…

We’re flying the pirate flag from 12 noon today, with the crew in costume, Pirate’s Roast, our special Blue Buccaneer and Seafoam Spritz cocktails, Guinness on tap, plenty of rum, fresh seafood and all the usual Swashies atmosphere.

So round up your own crew and come aboard for a Saturday afternoon on the waterfront. 🏴‍☠️⚓

It’s International Talk Like a Pirate Day - although around Swashies, we’ve been pretty well prepared for this since 1997. ⚓

The pirate festivities kicks off from 12 noon today, and we’ve got a few special reasons to come aboard:

🥩 Pirate’s Roast - sirloin roast with veges, mash & gravy
🍹 Blue Buccaneer - Blue Curaçao Piña Colada
🍈 Seafoam Spritz - Elderflower & Melon Spritz
🍺 Guinness on tap
🥃 And, naturally, plenty of rum

MEET THE WINEGROWER - LUC DESBONNETS

For Luc Desbonnets, Frenchman’s Hill Estate began with a belief formed while studying w**emaking and viticulture in France - that with the right land, vines and approach, New Zealand could produce w**e to rival some of the world's greats.

After studying in Bordeaux and gaining experience in European w**emaking, Luc eventually brought that philosophy to Waiheke Island.

His vineyards were established on steep coastal sites, with varieties matched to individual micro-sites and w**es made with techniques and disciplines Luc developed during his years in Europe.

The result is very much Luc's w**e - grown and made on Waiheke, with an uncompromising attention to the land and the way it's treated.

And right now, you don't even need to catch the ferry to try it.

Two Frenchman’s Hill Estate w**es are currently pouring at Swashies.
