What “It’s Not About Us” is about…
Over the past 30 years, point-of-care ultrasound has completely changed how doctors diagnose and treat patients. In the hands of trained healthcare professionals, it allows for faster, earlier diagnosis — meaning patients can get the right treatment sooner, and often with better outcomes.
What makes it even more powerful?
👉 Modern ultrasound machines are now portable, affordable, and incredibly effective
👉 They can reduce the need for more complex imaging like X-rays
👉 And they put life-saving tools directly in the hands of frontline healthcare workers
In many parts of Nepal, access to healthcare imaging is extremely limited. Traditional X-ray systems require significant infrastructure, reliable power, specialised facilities, and are very expensive to install and maintain — making them largely unavailable in smaller and rural communities.
Ultrasound is a far more practical solution. Not only can it often replace the need for X-rays, it also has its own unique advantages in pregnancy care, trauma, emergencies, and rapid bedside diagnosis.
In countries like Nepal, where access to quality healthcare can be limited — even in Kathmandu — these machines are rare but hugely impactful.
That’s where this work becomes real.
👨‍⚕️ Dr Matt Born has been taking ultrasound machines to Nepal and training local healthcare workers to use them — creating lasting impact well beyond a single visit.
