Every year the devotees gather at Hanuman Ghat, Bhaktapur to witness Barta (fasting) dedicated to Lord Madhav Narayan. During the event, devotees wake up early in the morning, have a holy bath in the river & stay still in the water till the priest finishes the matra. Unlike in Salinadi (where fasting is mostly done by women devotees), here in Bhaktapur the fasting (Barta) is mainly done by the male devotees.

Hanuman Ghat is an important tributary of Bagmati river though the significant sources of water in Hanumante river arebrainfall & natural springs. It has also been one of the most important Ghats seeming its terms of religious importance for the cremation of the deceased.
