The “mini” chariot.

There are many parts to the Biska Jatra celebration, but this is one of our favourites. The kids give their ALL to pull this smaller version of the big chariot.

Happy Biska Jatra from Rato Ghar!!

Do you know how to roll Mo:Mo? 🥟

Join Chef Sanjib for a hands-on class where you’ll learn (and laugh your way through) making Nepal’s most beloved dumpling.

Not quite sure if this little local was offering puja or hoping for a taste of the offerings left for the gods.

This Amaryllis surprised us!

We rescued this planter a few months ago while saving a forgotten fern from a corner filled with construction debris. Little did we know an Amaryllis bulb was hiding in the soil. As we brought the fern back to life, another life began to emerge.

This plant starts to bloom heading into Nepali New Year as a symbol of beauty and new beginnings.

A little behind-the-scenes moment at Rato Ghar.

We bought these chairs used and finally got around to re-upholstering them. So much of what we use here is repurposed or reclaimed from a previous life, and it’s always satisfying to see something old become new again.

(Just to be clear, NOT the beds or mattresses. Those were all new!)

Little by little the space is coming together beautifully.
