Honestly, we were a bit bummed out that we didn't make it into the Top 4 yesterday here at World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest. Today was the main event for the competition, and we were cooking Ribs. The Ribs turned out great, something the judges visiting our stand agreed upon. But in a competition like the one here in Memphis - you just never know.
The announcer started with 10 place, and when he was about to announce the 6th place winner, he mentioned that there were 27 US states and 7 countries competing. And wouldn't you know, the next words we heard were 'And in sixth place in the Ribs division, the winner is The Norwegian National Barbecue Team.' I just about peed myself. Just a little bit. Yeah, you get it.
We must have looked like kids playing in the mud, the way we were hopping around (some more than others) while we made our way up onto the stage. This has been a wonderful day, one of the biggest ever in our 17 years of competing in the Memphis in May International Festival.
