Welcome to Bergen in 2016
Bergen is looking forward to welcoming you to the city of Bergen for the 36th International Hanseatic days from the 9th to the 12th of June 2016. Bergen is a member of the 180-strong modern league of hanseatic towns and cities. Every year one city hosts the Hanseatic Days (www.hanse.org ). In 2016, the days come back to Bergen in Norway. Bergen was a successful host in 1996. The Hanseatic Days are large scale events that include the following:
* A market of stalls with culture, food and information from more than 100 cities in Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, the Baltics and others.
* A street festival of informal performances, where "half the town” contributes.
* A cultural program with higher ambitions, including the “HansaArt”.
* A youth program, a political program and a business program with participation from many hanseatic cities. Port city
Bergen is a port city, and our program in 2016 will reflect this with a harbour program, in addition to the elements expected at hanseatic days. In 2016, the Bergen event is also at the same time as the “Torgdagen”; a yearly festival of Bergens cultural relationship with its immediate region. The Torgdagen includes traditional music, dancing and a harbour full of historical fishing vessels. The “Bondens marked” is a large market for slow food and for farmers from the region. The yearly Bergenfest rock and pop festival is also at the same time. We are confidently expecting the city of Bergen to be one huge festival with something for everyone. Bergen’s goal in 2016 is also to highlight the Bergen’s broad cooperation with the Baltic Sea region and with Northern Europe, historically, today and in the future
