Restaurant Momus Restaurant Momus. Gelegen op het mooie Vrijthof in Maastricht. Deze bevrijding wilde men vieren door de Carnaval weer een nieuw leven in te blazen.

In april 1839 werd Nederlands Limburg definitief van Belgisch Vlaanderen gescheiden, na een staatsbeleg van negen jaar. Gedurende deze periode was er geen plaats voor feesten, ontspanning en zelfs de Carnaval werd verboden. De eerste Carnavalsvereniging ``RAAD VAN ELF `` was een feit, de Momus sociëteit was geboren. Momus was de Griekse God van de zotten, Momus was afgeleid van Mombacus dat masker

betekende. Gestaag groeide de vereniging, de locatie waar de bijeenkomsten plaats vonden werd al snel te klein. Op het Vrijthof was de breedte van twee naast elkaar liggende cafe´s precies elf meter breed, het getal van de zotten. De gelegenheid deed zich voor om de twee cafe´s te kunnen kopen, waarna zij de panden sloopten en er hun eigen Momus tempel bouwden. Het getal elf is door het gehele pand terug te vinden. De breedte van het pand is elf meter, er bevinden zich op de begane grond elf zuilen. Vanaf de voorgevel van het pand elf meter naar de binnenkant van het pand ontstaat dan een vierkant van elf bij elf meter. Het balkon aan de voorzijde telt twee maal elf pilaartjes. De elf enorme spiegels die zich in het pand bevinden dienden ervoor dat de Carnavalist zichzelf en anderen kon bewonderen. Het is een voorrecht om met een enthousiast team de gast te mogen verwelkomen in een pand met een rijke historie, sfeer en gezelligheid.
