Today, De Twee Spieghels celebrates its 54th anniversary!

54 years of jazz in a small café in Leiden, with a history that reaches far beyond the Netherlands.

Legends such as Ben Webster, Dexter Gordon, Johnny Griffin, Scott Hamilton and Roy Hargrove have performed here. Ben Webster in particular will forever be connected to this special place: his final concert took place here.

And the beautiful thing is that the story continues. Musicians from all over the world still find their way to De Twee Spieghels. A small café with a big story.

We are also proud to contribute to Leiden’s jazz tradition. The Leiden Blues and Jazz Week continues, and in January 2027 we will celebrate its 45th edition!

And above all: a huge thank you to all more than 60 members of our team who have given their time and energy over the years, to all the musicians from around the world who have played here and continue to do so, and of course to our loyal guests who keep finding their way to De Twee Spieghels.

Without all of you, this story would not exist.

Vandaag bestaat De Twee Spieghels precies 54 jaar!

54 jaar jazz in een klein Leids café, maar met een geschiedenis die de hele wereld overgaat.

Grootheden als Ben Webster, Dexter Gordon, Johnny Griffin, Scott Hamilton en Roy Hargrove stonden hier op het podium. Vooral Ben Webster is voor altijd verbonden met deze bijzondere plek: zijn allerlaatste concert vond hier plaats.

En het mooie is: het verhaal gaat nog steeds door. Muzikanten uit alle hoeken van de wereld weten De Twee Spieghels nog altijd te vinden. Een klein café, een groot verhaal.

Ook zijn we trots dat we ons steentje mogen bijdragen aan de Leidse jazztraditie. De Leidse Blues- en Jazzweek blijft bestaan en in januari 2027 vieren we alweer de 45ste editie!

En natuurlijk vooral: dank aan alle ruim 60 medewerkers die zich de afgelopen jaren met hart en ziel hebben ingezet, aan alle muzikanten uit de hele wereld die hier hebben gespeeld en nog steeds komen spelen, en aan onze trouwe gasten die telkens weer de weg naar De Twee Spieghels weten te vinden.

Zonder jullie zou dit verhaal niet bestaan.

Tonight 21:00 hours, jamsession by GUILLERMO LÓPEZ 5TET
Based in the Netherlands, the group was born of Guillermo’s desire to test his compositions and explore ways to create a more interactive group sound through collective solos. After a year of performances and rehearsals, the band has solidified to bring Guillermo’s vision to life.
With strong roots in swing and bebop, the band’s style explores elements from different genres such as free jazz, seeking to adapt them to contemporary aesthetics, with influences ranging from Joel Ross to Immanuel Wilkins.
The band is currently working on its debut album, 5tet+1, which will feature the core band alongside guest artists, such as flute and vocals.

Van vrijdag 4 t/m zondag 6 september laten we bij De Twee Spieghels de jazz even thuis en gaat de volumeknop op POP EN DISCO! 🪩✨

Verwacht ABBA, Madonna, Kylie, Gaga en héél veel andere gay icons. Onze spiegels verdwijnen achter de regenboogvlaggen, de glazen worden gevuld met bubbels & wijn. VRIJDAGAVOND is er een dragshow met Anita Burger en Dina Diamond om de boel extra glitter te geven. 💃👠✨
