⚡️ANNOUNCEMENT! ⚡️
9 years ago we began Yirga. We searched for a long time until we found an amazing space in the St. Annastraat and it was love at first sight! Right from the start we fell in love with this amazing place, one of the oldest streets in Breda, an oasis of calm in the middle of the hustle of the city, a space where we feel at home. This is where we started working on our goal to create a place where we ourselves would love to visit. Part of this goal is working with beautiful products, preferably locally produced, great and innovative coffee, natural wines, good food and good vibes. For 9 years we worked hard and gave it our all, together with our amazing team. We did so happily and with complete devotion. For that reason we are grateful to all our customers for always supporting us!
Much to our dismay earlier this year we received the news that the Breda council will no longer give us the permit for our terrace. From that moment onwards we tried everything we could to resolve this situation, sadly without success. For months we were left without any clear and decent answers to our questions. It still is a mystery to us why the Breda council, after giving us the necessary permits for years, is now doing everything they can to make it impossible for us to run our business.
For this reason we have been forced to decide to give up our lease and say goodbye to Yirga. For us Yirga only works with its terrace. Without it we loose a big part of our unique charm. To us the terrace has always been a nice, cozy and quaint space which fits in perfectly with the historic character of the street. Apparently the Breda council has different ideas.
It has been an intensely sad decision to make, after 9 years of good times working here, to say goodbye. All the support we received these past few days has truly moved us! At the same time we know there is a time of coming, and a time of going. We’re off to find our new adventure, and however wry it may sound, we are excited for this too.
We’ll remain open until Sunday July 31th and we hope to see you all before then! ❤️
