🦋 Fitting fact for a coffeeshop named Papillon: Sarphatipark has its very own butterfly-counting tradition.

Local green initiative Groene Buurten, together with Groen Gemaal, regularly leads free butterfly excursions through the park and the garden of Huis van de Wijk De Pijp — counting wings to track the ecological health of one of the busiest green spots in the city. Led by an expert who knows the difference between every flutter, it's equal parts nature lesson and quiet afternoon wandering.

Proof that even in the middle of the city, De Pijp still has room for a little magic. 🌿

Oranje head to Thessaloniki to take on Greece in the Nations League. Kick-off is 20:45 at the Toumba Stadium, and the Greek fans will be making plenty of noise.

The Nepalese shop at Albert Cuypstraat 197 greets visitors with a smile every single day — and right now it's also collecting donations to support the owner's home community in Nepal. No fuss, no pressure, just a donation box and a genuinely friendly welcome.

Sometimes the best part of the market isn't on the stalls. ❤️

🎉 Some grand openings take eighteen years to happen — and this one's finally here.

Coffeeshop The Boxx in Almere Buiten has just received the green light to open, after a process that started all the way back in 2008. Almost two decades, several planning studies and one very persistent entrepreneur later, the neighbourhood is set to get its own coffeeshop within the next couple of months.

Good things really do come to those who wait. 🌿

🌍 A hundred years after cannabis was first placed under international prohibition, the plant is finally getting a seat at the table — at UNESCO, no less.

From 29 September to 1 October, UNESCO's flagship culture conference Mondiacult takes place in Barcelona, and for the very first time cannabis has its own dedicated platform there. Civil society groups FAAAT and Cannabis Embassy will be presenting on the plant's cultural and historical significance, marking exactly a century since prohibition began.

From outlawed to invited onto the world stage — that's quite the glow-up. 🌿

On the last Sunday of the month, Repair Café De Pijp opens its doors at the Voedselbank on Lutmastraat, where volunteers fix clothing, appliances, furniture and more — no appointment needed, just a donation if you feel like it. Next one's Sunday 27 September, 12:00–16:00.

♨️ Did you know people have been getting together for a cannabis "v***r bath" for at least 2,500 years?

The ancient Scythians, nomadic horse-riders who roamed the Eurasian steppe, would toss cannabis onto heated stones inside small tent structures and inhale the smoke together — described by the Greek historian Herodotus as a joyful, communal ritual full of singing and celebration. Archaeologists have since confirmed it: cannabis residue has turned up in burial sites stretching from Ukraine all the way to Siberia.

Turns out getting cosy together over a bit of smoke is a tradition older than most civilizations. 🔥
