Stichting ZAMEN has invited 5 talented artists to showcase work during the upcoming weekend edition at Studio C . We've selected some familiar KMN faces to showcase some of their work. We’re all about fostering artistic growth, and for this expo, we’re featuring artists who’ve made remarkable strides over the past year. First up:

" Emre Arikan is a Turkish artist and designer based in Amsterdam. His work spans both digital and traditional mediums but mainly fixed on relief printmaking. He draws inspiration from Japanese woodblock prints, both eastern and western folklore, paganism, as well as the beauty of nature and animals.
“Art possesses the ability of condensing the pieces of truth underneath everyday things, diluting them to their purest form, and communicating it without the limitations of language. Through art one turns inward, reassess their perspective, and shed layers of beliefs and influences. It is then one can start cultivating genuine connection. Both with oneself, and with others. That is why, our tales, symbols, and art play such a great role in our evolution as humankind. It helps us to understand what is our place within the greater whole. It is not merely self expression, but a tool to see the glimpses of the intangible. “ "

No Need To Confess
Opening Thursday 6 March, 18 - 22 hrs
PAKT Foundation, Amsterdam

An exhibition situated around the topic of abortion by Aimée Phillips .bearded.cleopatra and Nina Linde Läuger . Performances by .bel

'In a multidisciplinary manner we aim to interweave different perspectives (historical, intimate and socio-political) on abortion and confession. In doing so, we hope to offer a platform for practices that expose the taboos relating to abortion. We do this by combining (self)fabricated archival material from different eras that have normalized and lived out misogynistic (political, religious as well as social) structures and rework them. We invite the visitors to enter the layered narratives and complex relationships between image and imagination, listen to the lived experiences of people with wombs and how abortion is submerged in repressive language and censorship. For ‘No Need to Confess’ we are collaborating with artists Annette Rodriquez, Bel McLaughlin and Clara Saito. They will do a performance during the opening on the 6th of March.'

This project is supported by the AFK (Amsterdam Fund for the Arts) and Stichting Zamen .

With immense gratitude, we reflect on the six group shows hosted by Stichting ZAMEN this year at the now-closed Expocafé ZAMEN. Each exhibition brought together artists who had never met before, sparking new connections and offering fresh, diverse perspectives on the selected themes.

We began the year with In Het Donker (In The Dark), an exploration of mental health and its connection to creativity. Next, we celebrated Expocafé ZAMEN’s 10-year anniversary, uniting around 25 artists, all linked in some way to the Zamenhof area. As spring arrived, we teamed up with Kunstmarkt Noord to invite 10 ambitious artists, resulting in a vibrant and colorful showcase. Pijnlijk Mooi (Painfully Beautiful) followed, where six artists shared their interpretations of finding beauty in grimness and dark times. Over the summer, we hosted the video installation THIS IS THE ONLY THING I GOT LEFT, and finally, we concluded our time at Expocafé ZAMEN with Hitching A Ride To Foreigners Everywhere, an exhibition inspired by this year's Venice Biennale D'Arte.

Though Expocafé ZAMEN has officially closed its doors, Stichting ZAMEN Art & Culture is far from finished. We're taking some time to refocus, but we have two incredible shows in the works that we’ve been developing over the past year. Stay tuned by following us on our socials to be the first to know when and where these exhibitions will take place.

Thank you for all the love and support you've shown us in this first year. We’re excited to welcome you to new spaces and continue this journey together.

About "Hitching A Ride With Foreigners Everywhere"
This exhibition is linked to the theme of the 2024 Venice Biennale, curated by Adriano Pedrosa, "Foreigners Everywhere.": It explores the idea that everyone, regardless of location, is both surrounded by and is intrinsically a foreigner, highlighting the universality of the outsider experience. The exhibition focuses on artists who are immigrants, expatriates, and diasporic individuals, to emphasize diverse perspectives and the shared human condition of being a foreigner.

We have invited the following artists to give their take on this theme:
Tutu Guo
Yunil Jeon .jeon
Tyler & Sebastian Koudijzer
Silvana Araoz-Fraser
Siroos Bahadory
Bijan Bahadori Kashkuli

The show is on view until the 8th of September
