As we get ready for our next on Sunday, I want to have a throw back to our last event #6 lead by designer Zlil Busnach as she talked to us about the Jewish Orthodox feminist women's collective in Jerusalem, Studio of Her Own. Over cake and home made spring rolls covered the issues that these artists have had to overcome and/or address in creating their work, not only in their daily lives in such a strict traditional community, but also in reaching a wider audience in these strong political times. It was interesting to see which difficulties some of us were unaware of before, coming from a non-middle eastern perspectives. And how the strength of these women, their beliefs and their feminism radiates through their art.
As the world becomes more connected through social media it is important that we keep these stories alive, and remember that no group is homogenous, and every individual has their own voice. And so, sometimes we need to sit back and listen.
