Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces (SAF) Министарство одбране и Војска Србије
16.09.2026 Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić met today with the Adjutant General of the Ohio National Guard, Major General Matthew Woodruff.

During the meeting, Minister Gašić stressed the importance of the 20-year partnership with the Ohio National Guard under the State Partnership Programme, and added that the two countries have been linked for nearly 150 years through diplomatic ties and shared values.

He noted that a new chapter in bilateral relations between the two countries opened in June, when the first U.S.-Serbia Strategic Dialogue was held, with the Ministry of Defence participating, indicating both countries’ commitment to expanding and deepening their partnership.

Speaking about the situation in our southern province, the Minister of Defence stressed that the issue of Kosovo and Metohija is a matter of paramount national importance for us and voiced concern about the safety of the Serbian and other non-Albanian communities.

Major General Woodruff stated that the Serbian Armed Forces are an important partner to the Ohio National Guard, and added that the cooperation is of vital importance for strengthening mutual understanding, trust, and professional ties between the personnel of the two militaries. He expressed his satisfaction that the cooperation is mutually beneficial rather than one-sided, allowing both sides to exchange experiences and learn something new. He said he will attend events commemorating the historical ties between Serbia and the United States, including the ceremony marking the 82nd anniversary of Operation Halyard.

14.9.2026 Rotation of Serbian Armed Forces Contingent in Sinai Mission
Министарство одбране и Војска Србије

Members of the Serbian Armed Forces who had been deployed on the international peacekeeping mission in the Sinai Peninsula since March this year returned to the Republic of Serbia following a successful tour of duty and the handover of responsibilities.

This was the Serbian Armed Forces’ sixth contingent in the mission of the independent peacekeeping organization “Multinational Force and Observers,” established pursuant to the 1981 agreement between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the State of Israel with the aim of implementing the security provisions of the 1978 Egypt-Israel agreement.

Over the past six months, members of our contingent—comprising a staff officer and a nine-member engineering task force—have been engaged in planning and executing engineering and infrastructure works at the mission camp in the southern part of the Sinai Peninsula. Of particular note is the construction of a new water supply and hydrant network, which has significantly improved safety conditions and infrastructure reliability within the camp.

The performance of Serbian Armed Forces personnel was assessed by the mission command as exceptionally professional and responsible, thereby upholding the reputation of the Serbian soldier and representing the Republic of Serbia in the best possible light within the international environment.

In the Area of Operations, they were replaced by members of the seventh rotation of the Serbian Armed Forces’ engineering unit, who, following the handover of duties, began their six-month deployment performing the same tasks.

The Serbian Armed Forces began their participation in this mission in July 2023 by deploying an engineer task force as part of the U.S. contingent, thereby demonstrating their capability to deploy forces and resources in an international environment and their full commitment to building and maintaining global peace.

Day of the Mixed Artillery Brigade
Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces (SAF) Министарство одбране и Војска Србије

14th September is celebrated as the Day of the Mixed Artillery Brigade. On that day in 1918, artillery preparation for the breakthrough of the Thessaloniki front which lasted until the beginning of the breakthrough on September 15th at 05.30 hrs. About 2,000 artillery tubes sounded the beginning of the long-awaited attack of the allied armies on the Thessaloniki front and the end of the Serbian Golgotha in the WW1. During the 20-hour long artillery preparation, Bulgarian artillery was destroyed, wire obstacles smashed, ditches plowed and conditions created for the First and Second Serbian Army to start the breakthrough of the Thessaloniki front. Target selection, accuracy and performance of artillery fire surpassed all artillery operations ever conducted.

Mixed Artillery Brigade was formed on 4 June 2007 and it continues the tradition of 203rd Mixed Artillery Brigade that was operational from 1988 till 2006.
