Looks nice, in the garden, on the table, on your plate.

Red cabbage from the moestuin, hop from our porch and sunchoke flowers from the neighbours front garden (approved plucking) - food is everywhere 🌻🥬💜

To finish our 6 week trip in Peru we went to Central. It was a mindblowing experience. With more knowledge of the altitudes, regions and eco systems we tried to capture all the food and beverages that were put in front of us. Still we were dazzled with all the unknown products and names of ingredients. The food was delicious, the pairings were original and perfect companions to the food. The chefs, sommeliers and everybody at the table were a pleasure to meet. What an amazing place and such an important cornerstone of the Peruvian culture.

Kampu is a gem in the heart of the Sacred Valley Urubamba. A small garden restaurant where chef Eduardo serves Peruvian-Thai food. A great combination of tasty curries based on ingredients of the Andes. Peanuts, lime, coconut, ginger - all these ingredients indigenous to the area.

Highlights were the warm stone shrimp ceviche with sweet potato cooked in orange juice. The massaman curry with chicken cubes and rich peanut-coconut sauce. The different noodles like udon and pad thai - everything cooked and served in an expertise fashion. The ambience was laid back and comforting.

Kampu underlines the reason the Sacred Valley is worth to visit and stay a bit longer. Cusco is nice and buzzing, but here you have these little gems, which give you a tranquility in a spiritual mountainous surrounding.

Hiking Salkantay brought us to Aguas Calientes where we bought tickets to Machu Picchu. After we took the train to Ollantaytambo where we had dinner at Alqa. Alqa is part of a museum, and situated in a gorgeous garden where we had lunch amidst humming birds.

A beatiful poetic lunch, that took us through lakes (trout), fields (corn and tubers), meadows (alpaca) and time (aged duck, fallen flowers). A special approach to food in a surrounding that brought us back to the historical Inka culture.

Peru has a longer history of producing wine than Argentina and Chili. The Spaniards brought wine grapes to Ica - in the middle of the desert. Bodega Alegre has more than 100 ha of vineyards. Most of it is Quebranta for Pisco, but they also planted international grapes as Chardonnay and Cabernet.

For now I would stick to Pisco. A single grape destillate for the perfume or a neutral one for cocktails. But the Peruvians have a growing interest in the production of quality wine. Do you think there’s a future for desert wine?
