El Gato Negro opened nine years ago. It was a labor of love, born of our need to create an inviting, creative, nutritious space for this once sleepy little fishing village on the ocean. We started with 4 tables, 2 used Mister Coffee machines, a "home espresso machine", one employee, and lots of love and energy. 9 years later....well, The Gato is a Nicaraguan institution. We invite you to experience our little bookstore/coffeehouse. Come sample our whole foods, organic coffees roasted on premises from our own farm, and vegetarian delights. Sample our own superfood smoothies - the only in the country. The Gato is the only source of many superfood items in Nicaragua and sometimes in all of Central America. In addition, we search the wilds of Nicaragua for undiscovered food items of high-vibe and high nutritional value. Come browse our 5.000 strong inventory of the most eclectic books you will find in this world. You may be reminded of the selection at The Strand near Union Square in NYC or City Lights in San Francisco, but on a smaller scale. If you are not too entwined in our 64 plus page menu, you can divine your future with our tarot cards, a daily activity for many regulars. We also have one of the largest selection of tarot cards for sale anywhere outside of NYC or hippie communities in California. We have coloring for adults and children, games, lots of current magazines and a beautiful outdoor patio for relaxing. Eclectic, ever-evolving and downright funky. Come experience something out of the ordinary, sterile world of mass market, faux coffeehouses
