El Gato Negro opened nine years ago. It was a labor of love, born of our need to create an inviting, creative, nutritious space for this once sleepy little fishing village on the ocean. Sample our own superfood smoothies - the only in the country. The Gato is the only source of many superfood items in Nicaragua and sometimes in all of Central America. In addition, we search the wilds of Nicaragua for undiscovered food items of high-vibe and high nutritional value. Come browse our 5.000 strong inventory of the most eclectic books you will find in this world. You may be reminded of the selection at The Strand near Union Square in NYC or City Lights in San Francisco, but on a smaller scale. If you are not too entwined in our 64 plus page menu, you can divine your future with our tarot cards, a daily activity for many regulars. We also have one of the largest selection of tarot cards for sale anywhere outside of NYC or hippie communities in California. Gato Negro coffee is back!

I have 250 pounds of Miramar coffee from my old farm that I shared with Will and Vanessa. The farm was called Miramar because on a good day you can see the Gulf of Fonseca. We are also the last to harvest in the country due to the high altitude.

Our neighbor, Café Monte Cristo, came in second twice in the Cup of Excellence. He bought our farm five years ago.
The coffee is high caffeine, ultra smooth, and rivals Kona according to several of our Hawaiian customers. I had a bag of 3 year-old beans that we roasted a year ago. Even aged, it was better than anything that I have had since Gato closed.

It is sold whole bean for $17 per 1 lb. bag, $16 if you bring your own bag/container, and $15 for 5 bags or more. I am not sure if we can procure more beans from this harvest, so stock up now.

We are using the Monte Cristo roasting profile for a dark roast. If you want a medium or espresso roast, there is an 8 pound. minimum. We used the dark roast for our house coffee.

The bags are metallic silver with a gas valve to keep it fresh. (I had a bag last 4 years without a flavor change.) I am not resurrecting the Gato label (it's in the past), but I have two lovely labels with the Harmonia brand. Photos of the labels tomorrow. One is wildflowers, the other is a hand, both drawn by Gwendolyn Beachy.
