Let me tell you three truths about this city and this age:
1. Hustle without direction is just stress.
We all know how to hustle. Lagos taught us. But hustle is not the goal. Clarity is.
At 25 to 34, your job is not to do everything. Your job is to pick ONE thing and get dangerously good at it. Not 5 side hustles that drain you. One skill that pays you. Whether it's coding, tailoring, sales, writing, plumbing, skincare, data analysis - become the person people call when they need it done right. In this Lagos, skill will always find money.
2. Consistency beats connection.
Yes, connection helps. But you cannot control who your uncle knows. You CAN control if you show up every day.
The tailor in Tejuosho who opens shop at 8am every day for 3 years will overtake the talented tailor who opens only when he feels inspired. Your Instagram page with 200 honest posts will beat the one with 2 perfect posts. Stop waiting for a big break. Small, boring consistency is the real big break in Lagos.
3. You must build your own community.
This age will try to isolate you. Rent is high. Light is inconsistent. Job rejections hurt. Relationships fail. You will feel alone in a city of 16 million people.
Don't do it alone. Find your 3 to 5 people. The ones who tell you the truth, not just what you want to hear. The ones who share opportunities, not just gist. Your network is not how many contacts you have on WhatsApp. It's who will mention your name in a room where you are not present.
So here is my charge to you:
For the next 12 months, stop comparing. Start building.
Wake up and ask: What skill am I mastering? Who am I serving consistently? Who is in my circle?
You don't need to be a millionaire by 30. You need to be growing by 30. Growing in skill, growing in discipline, growing in peace of mind.
Because the truth is, Lagos will not give you an easy life. But Lagos rewards those who refuse to quit.
Some of you will build businesses that employ people. Some will get that UK or Canada job and still thrive. Some will stay and change your family story right here on this soil. All paths are valid - as long as it is YOUR path.
You are not behind. That pressure you feel? It's not proof that you failed. It's proof that you care. Use it.
My brother, my sister - your 20s were for exploring. Your 30s are for executing.
So stand up. Adjust your crown. Dust your shoes from that last danfo.
Your time is not coming. Your time is now. Not tomorrow morning. Now.
Go and build it.
