The holy month of Ramadan for many Muslims around the world is a time of reflection and sacrifice dedicated to a daily abstinence from food and drink (including water) until sunset, for thirty days.
Throughout this period, it is important to consume foods from all major food groups so that energy level can be sustained, increase the feeling of fullness and prevent constipation.
You might want to avoid consuming too much of oily, salty and floury foods which can decrease the body’s resistance without providing adequate vitamin and minerals which are vital to sustaining energy levels longer.
Some of the foods you should be paying attention to are:
Fruits and Vegetables, because they are rich in fibres and also contain vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals, which are vital to good health.
Rice and alternatives: Include complex carbohydrates that are rich in providing the body with sustainable energy.
Meats and alternatives: protein rich sources such as lean meat, legumes, fish and low-fat dairy products should not be left out your Ramadan meal times.
