*Reopening of traffic on the N1 road, Baixa de Nguluzane, Xai-Xai city, Gaza province*

The National Roads Administration, ANE, IP, informs motorists and the general public that *traffic for all types of vehicles will be reopened tomorrow, February 6th, at 10:00 AM, and in a CONDITIONAL MANNER, on the N1 road, in Baixa de Nguluzane, Xai-Xai city, Gaza province*.

The reopening of vehicle traffic at this point on the N1 road *will allow land connection between Maputo – Xai-Xai and the rest of the country*.

The ANE, IP, appeals to all drivers to:

1. Avoid night driving;

2. Respect the signage placed along the stretch;

3. Avoid speeding, respecting the 30 km/h limit during this phase where damage assessment work is being carried out on the road surface.

ANE, IP, also informs that, even after the reopening of traffic, road improvement work will continue, which means that the circulation of machinery and other construction equipment will continue, and, *if justified, traffic may be temporarily interrupted* to allow for damage repairs.

ANE, IP appeals for everyone's cooperation and greater caution while driving, at a time when traffic is restricted due to ongoing work on the ground, especially on the following sections: N1: Baixa de Nguluzane, in the city of Xai-Xai; N1: 3 de fevereiro/Incoluana and N220: Chissano/Chibuto.

Gaza Beef Mozambique IS OPEN!

Latest update on the EN1 (N1) from Maputo to Xai-Xai as of early February 2026:
The critical section of the EN1 between Incoluane and 3 de Fevereiro (in Manhiça District, Maputo Province) — which had been completely severed by Incomáti River flooding and multiple washouts (around 6 major cuts) — has been reopened to traffic.
Reopening occurred around January 30–31, 2026, after emergency repair works filled in the damaged sections and restored basic passability.
Initial reopening was conditional (e.g., limited speeds, possibly priority for certain vehicles), but it has since allowed normal movement of people and goods between Maputo and Gaza provinces.
This restores the main overland connection from Maputo northward toward Xai-Xai and beyond, after nearly two weeks of total isolation.
However, conditions remain challenging further north:
In Gaza Province, particularly around Xai-Xai, flooding persists in some areas. The city itself has been heavily inundated, with parts still cut off or difficult to access.
The Limpopo River bridge in Xai-Xai has been reported as reopened to heavy trucks and full traffic in recent days, which is a positive step for through-traffic.
Some sources indicate that while the Maputo–Gaza link via EN1 is now possible, certain stretches in/around Xai-Xai may still have restrictions, residual flooding, or require caution due to ongoing water levels and damage.
Overall status:
Maputo to Xai-Xai is now possible by road, but expect potential delays, degraded road conditions in places, and the need for caution (especially with heavy rain forecasts or river fluctuations).
Humanitarian and logistics operations report improved access compared to late January, but full normalcy is not yet restored everywhere in Gaza.
The National Roads Administration (ANE, IP) and Ministry of Transport have prioritized this corridor, and repairs continue where needed.
This is based on reports from ANE updates, government statements, and reliable sources like Club of Mozambique, AIM, and humanitarian clusters up to January 31–February 1, 2026. Conditions can change quickly with weather, so check official ANE announcements, local traffic alerts, or recent traveler reports before traveling. Avoid unnecessary trips if possible, and use 4x4/high-clearance vehicles where advised.
