Sometimes people ask aiya why your food so expensive. Well, most of our food ingredients / raw ingredients, we buy from family run business / old couples, in which, to form a relationship with them and there is a genuine interaction (except the dry ingredients like garlic, onions, flour, sauces, which I buy from wholesale markets because I buy by the guni. Hence, the money pumped into supporting the livelihoods or these people instead of corporations. Of course, it would be more cost effective for me to buy kampong eggs etc from those big borong places but I would rather it go to the hands of an old couple who smiles warmly and get worried when I don’t come at my usual time to pick up my stock. My chicken comes from a mother-daughter team who slogs from early morning. Slaughtering and prepping the chicken instead of those found in the supermarkets that, yes, it cost RM1-RM3 cheaper, but God knows the source. Yes, profit matters but you only have one chance in this lifetime. So why not live with a heart. The money you pay for ‘ethical food’ flows down to feeding the mouths of many genuinely etching out of a living through sweat and hard work, and the love of it. The big corporation’s are killing the local stores, which have been handed down through the generation/family. So, next time you think of hurling abuse at the price of the food, please think of us and support us, who sell ethical food.
