At Hedley Books and Coffee, we only hire students to work as part timers. Some are looking for skills and experiences. While some need extra money to live by when things are tough back home.
When I was at college I worked in the cafeteria. I worked as a kitchen crew at salad sections. You won't believe Americans were salad freaks πŸ˜ƒ. We had all kinds of salad. My favorite was the oriental noodle salad ~ not because of my Asian thing but seriously, it was sooo good. And I made it myself! Nooo...I didnt create the recipe..it was all in the book πŸ˜„
What I like about the job, not only I got free meals but I got to know all kinds of people there. I worked with 2 American elderly ladies, my other partner was a Thai student, and my supervisor was a Brazilian 😊😊

Having a cafe inside reminds me during my student years circa 1990s at , California, USA. Every weekend we would hang out at our favorite restaurant sipping endless cups of coffee. We just stayed there drinking coffee, telling all kinds of stories, making plans and so on till the wee hours.

I remembered the time when the International Student Dept organized a cultural event. Me and my buddy got into a fashion show wearing baju kurung and baju melayu. After it ended we went to Dennys. As we walked in all eyes were on us. I heard a whisper saying..is he wearing a pajama? LOL!!

Infaq Day 3 (5 Ramadan)

Kita selalu kaitkan sedekah bulan ramadan dgn sedekah berbuka di masjid, rmh org tua, rmh anak yatim dan yg sewaktu dengannya.

Tpi kita selalu terlepas pandang ada ramai lagi golongan yg deserve sedekah jgk. Mereka2 yg bekerja dikedai2, fastfood restaurant yg mana mereka tidak boleh katup kedai sewenangnya bila masuk waktu berbuka. They still have to work. In fact, they dont have time to go out and buy food..makan apa yg ada dorang cakap.

So yesterday lokasi kami adalah:
1. Big Pharmacy
2. Marry Brown
3. 7 Eleven
4. Sushi King

Yg terharu sgtnya bila mereka cakap ini lah kali pertama mereka dpt makanan free for iftar. We can see glow of happiness and gratitude dari muka dorang dan ucapan terimakaseh yg tak sudah.

Ramadan ini Hedley akan mengambil "sabbatical leave".
Kami mengorak langkah dgn memulakan projek infaq berbuka puasa mulai 4 Mac hingga 25 Mac.

Kami akan menyediakan pack makanan berupa nasi minyak, kuzi ayam dan air kotak sebanyak 20 set sehari dan akan diagihkan ke lokasi seperti stesen MRT, LRT, shopping mall (target kami adalah pekerja2 muslim di outlet2) dan juga hospital.

Kami mengalu-alukan penyertaan anda semua sebagai penginfaq. Anda boleh book slot and dahulu. Bayaran akan kami beritahu bila tiba masanya.

Kami akan menjalankan tanggungjawab dan amanah ini dengan penuh ikhlas dan bersemangat. Doakan supaya projek mini kami ini akan berjaya.
