“At first I thought you have already opened at KKB…” Allen came to visit with his girlfriend and a birthday girl tonight.
“KKB needs 1 hour long drive there, you intend to go for dinner from KL then come back? “
“Yes, why not! ”
“Yes! We must go, we must support you..” Allen’s girlfriend, Coco Mong said with her big eyes looking at me.
I paused a little and for awhile I was speechless. I’m grateful, especially never ending challenges at KKB still haunting me. Allen and Coco were so kind. We didn’t spoke that much, that long hours when we were at Huck’s Cafe Bangsar. Usually only a brief chat. Could be this is home, my house. We are more open at home…I even shared my late Mother and my family long story…

Iain said he was worried I fell into sleep while I was driving back to Penang Qing Ming four years ago. So he drove me to Nibong Tebal, Bukit Mertajam and Kulim to Qing Ming my late Parents, my late Sister and younger Brother every year since.
Indeed, I do get sleepy head sometimes when driving long distance alone. My the other two kids didn’t follow, they know this is hot and sweaty event to avoid. So only me and my second son, Iain Qing Ming every year!
Saw him on and off getting his office call, stopped at R&R just to reply his colleague whatsapp…even on his off day. I’m glad to see he was so committed into his job. He is kind in nature since a very young age.
Of course, when sun down, Yin took over Yang at the mountain, we took change to fill out stomach with Michelin award winning Ming Qing Duck Eggs Char Kuih Teow! Iain recommended me must try! It was amazing dam-good! So good we ordered another plate to share. I still need to keep a small corner somewhere of my stomach for dessert at another venue. The Santan Ow Chup Bi ( Black Glutinous Rice) that I have been missed! So good, so full, so happy! xx huck

3.30pm, how come the lamb shoulder still not tender after an hour at oven? I did slow-cooked them an hour in a pot before oven. To my surprise, the oven was not even hot, then saw no light on.
I immediately thinking I need to switch to another spared digital oven that had never been used, but how? I’m alone at home, to carry that heavy oven to a nearer switch..PANIC!!!
Then I remember I did carry that oven alone into my car to Bangsar many years ago. I’m sure I can do it again! Cleared my mind and focus, deep breath after deep breaths. I managed to move down. The digital oven wire was too short to reach the main switch, meaning I need to carry it up and nearer to it..boy! that is heavy! I tried all I might, a bit by bit with struggle, I did it somehow! But unable to switch on, no electricity coming in…realised it was not the old oven fault.
Called my electrician, he was in outstation..I know I can not cancel my friend’s Birthday dinner. She has a family coming from Singapore.
Then I called another electrician, he took 30 minutes arrive calmly, while waiting, I quickly moved on peeling the Mango, Apple… and getting ready the Chinese Spinach to bath for the Catalan Cod Fish..
“Huck, temporarily you can use but need to install stopper on Monday..”
“ Thank You! Wow! It is saved for me to use..”
Suddenly I see hope! My prayers have always answered!
It was already 5pm, my Friend will arrive at 7pm.
After serving the Dragon Fruit Basil Seeds welcome drinks, I realised I need to prepare Garlic Bread like in a few second…Phew! xx huck

After my family left, One and half hour just to clean the kitchen and washed dishes… I have been busy cooking and preparing the table since 11am until 6.30pm. Surprisingly one whole day used, only for 4 pax!
I did a new Black Berries Fumble and the country Chicken Pie..I accidentally used a last pack of flour in my kitchen which I think was expired, but I couldn’t find the date..it didn’t smell like a fresh Lemon dough after I finished sweating kneading,..wasted my two Lemons, two eggs and one and half butter, worst, it was prepared a night ahead. Then quickly went to buy a new flour this morning…
The Black Berries Fumble was a bit too sweet, although my eldest son and daughter politely finished all.. I will redo it for sure. I also surprised my kids a chilled Peach Pico as their welcome drinks, the usual Mushrooms soup and Garlic Bread, my son commented the soup 90% close to Huck’s Cafe. lol!
I could tell by their expression when they arrived, a Glassroom that I just make over myself a few days ago, which no one had enter for the past 15 years, including myself…Lol!
I wasn’t tired but I really enjoyed creating my first Fumble and serving my family. Could be I miss busy…or that feeling again…

The obsession of the Ant Fern Lecanopteris. Ant has the mutual love relationship with this fern. This fern builds pointing hollow rhizomes, ant gives their waste back as a food instead.
I relocated them after a year at another location. Because their leaves was getting less, although I found some different leaves of the usual ant fern, also a wild fern has no leaf started new shoots. It must be from the birds. Hope they love the new environments and stay with me as the three-love-relationships. winks. xx huck

“Yes! Because by the time we drove back to Serdang, food will get cold..”
“OK, come up to my balcony then, if you do not mind messy house but only fans, wear long pants, got mosquito sometimes..”
So I quickly looked for plate, cutlery..but could not find table mats, Steak knife…not even a straw..I wasn’t ready to serve at all. Lol! However, we have a good catch up. Conversation ended at 11.30pm. xx huck

She must have not even 14 years old. Why she is selling Curry Laksa at this young age alone…
“只有你一个人吗？”
“啊不…还有我妈妈！”
“妳妈妈呢？”
“我妈妈上班去了。”
“怎么, 这里买面不够维持生活吗？”
She shook her head, lower her head continued to prepare my order. It was like she in a deep thought..
“我父亲在医院生病，要看医生..”
Then I decided not to ask any questions, let her concentrate to cook my Curry Mee.
“Aiya, 对不起..”
“Oops! 小心烫手！没事，没事..”
She accidentally overturned the hot soup while packing. Just a bit..
“妳要告诉妳妈妈上面要过掛招牌，不然，我们不懂如何来到这里..”
Then I paid her rm15..
“Uncle, 我不足够散钱…”
“那就不用找了。” 她張很大眼睛看着我。
“小妹妹，妳要坚强，我们不会倒楣一辈子的! 這只是一种历练。”

Life tough to many..it is not all young teens can go travel with their parents and enjoy Ice Cream at the mall…
Thought we did face some problem now and then, but compare to her and family. We were much more luckier.
I was here at OUG this morning, wanted to enjoy some old fashioned traditional CNY mood..I always like OUG. Although I only know Baked With Yan here. It is still so new to me.
Last year about this time, I also remembered an auntie insisted me to come back the next morning because I was looking some Dried Lotus Leaf. She told me, her neighbour has some big fresh Lotus Leaves, she will cut for me…although I didn’t return, it was a busy CNY week..but I could not find her this morning. But I remember her.
Happy Valentine’s Day! We do not need a reason to celebrate love.
