Nyonya Roots, the brainchild and passion of our parents, was established on the 26th of December 2011. Our parents opened this quaint little place with the dream of not just serving authentic Penang Nyonya cuisine, but to also bring our Ah Ma’s unique Nyonya recipes to the masses. Hence, the name Nyonya Roots which signifies a restaurant that is true to its cultural and familial roots. We, their c
hildren, are now the masterminds behind this restaurant. We decided to enter this business for one simple reason: we believe in this food. After all, this is the food we grew up with. Penang Nyonya food is so special because it is a confluence of two unique and distinct cultures, of Malay and Chinese cuisine. Add to that the touch of our brilliant Ah Ma and the innovation of our equally brilliant mom and voila! What you get is a menu of delicious dishes unlike any other. Yes, the basic Nyonya flavours are still there: serai, lengkuas, limau purut, bunga kantan, buah keras and daun kesom. But our dishes have been made special by my Ah Ma and mom’s own brand of genius, their own brand of love. It’s too good to just… disappear. This is our culinary legacy. We want to share it with you.
