Pukul 8 pagi, singgah gerai depan office beli nasi lemak sambal sotong lebih. Atau order roti canai banjir dua keping dengan teh tarik buih lebih. Makan dekat pantry berselera sungguh. Kononnya dalam hati, "Inilah bahan bakar untuk aku pulun kerja pagi ni!"

Masuk je pukul 10 pagi.. tiba-tiba mata jadi berat macam kena letak batu.

Menguap tak henti-henti depan laptop sampai berair mata. Otak rasa tepu, 'jammed', baca satu e-mel pendek pun kena ulang tiga kali sebab tak masuk dalam kepala. Bila bos panggil meeting, rasa macam nak tertidur sambil duduk.

Pernah tak jadi macam ni? Ramai orang salahkan malam tadi tidur lambat, padahal punca utamanya ada dalam pinggan sarapan anda sendiri!

Inilah yang dipanggil 'Sugar Crash' atau Reactive Hypoglycemia.

Nasi lemak, roti canai, teh tarik. semua ni adalah 'bom' karbohidrat ringkas dan gula yang sangat besar. Bila makanan ni masuk dalam perut, ia bertukar menjadi glukosa dengan sangat laju. Gula dalam darah anda akan mencanak naik (Sugar Spike).

Bila gula naik terlalu laju, pankreas anda akan panik dan terus pam hormon insulin banyak-banyak untuk paksa gula tu turun semula. Kesannya? Gula dalam darah anda akan jatuh menjunam melepasi paras normal!

Waktu gula menjunam inilah otak anda tiba-tiba 'terputus' bekalan tenaga. Badan jadi lemah, mata jadi layu, otak hilang fokus, dan mood terus jadi 'kelaut'. Yang paling teruk, anda akan rasa lapar balik dan mula cari jajan atau biskut manis kat pantry. Kitaran toksik ni berulang setiap hari.

Bukan tak boleh makan nasi lemak atau roti canai langsung. Tapi janganlah jadikan ia sarapan wajib setiap hari.

Kalau nak otak kekal tajam, fokus, dan badan bertenaga sampai ke waktu rehat tengah hari, tukarlah kepada sarapan yang tinggi protein dan serat kompleks. Contohnya: 2 biji telur rebus, roti wholemeal, atau oat. Protein akan lepaskan tenaga perlahan-lahan, bukannya mengejut macam 'rollercoaster'.

Nak nampak pro depan bos, kena mula dari apa yang kita suap waktu pagi. Jangan sampai teguk kopi 3 cawan pun masih tersengguk-sengguk depan PC!
