It’s a common “myth” for people to immediately assume that meat tends to carry more protein in it than most foods. 🤔

However, believe it or not, broccoli actually contains more protein per calorie than steak itself! 🥦

You know what they say, you learn something new every day! ☝️

Today is . The mission of www.chronicdiseaseday.org is "an awareness campaign that uses peoples’ stories and voices to advocate to lower the number of preventable illness, advance access to care for unpreventable conditions, and build healthier communities."

I use my voice and my story to spread hope that we can heal. We are not hopeless or helpless when faced with chronic illness.

I was told I would likely die by 2020. I was told I needed chemo and steroids for life. I was told I had incurable disease. If I believed traditional medicine, I believe I would be dead. I would definitely be disabled.

Healing isn't easy. It's not magic. Don't be fooled by quick fixes and false promises. The world of wellbeing is stuffed with people more concerned with their interests than your healing.

But also don't let frustration and impatience, fear and confusion pull you under. A healing journey starts with hope. And there are many legit healers and resources to help you. Healing does not require wealth or fancy gadgets, gizmos, pills or potions. The best resources are often free and readily available to anyone, anywhere.

What's your story? Let us hear your voice.

Thank you to Rebuilding My Health] for writing and sharing my story as well as the stories of so many others. Want to hear voices of recovery? Check out Rebuilding My Health] and read my story here https://rebuildingmyhealth.com/autoimmune-disorders/

Simply put, eczema becomes a sign that your body is inflamed. The solution, then, becomes figuring what’s wrong inside your body and reducing that inflammation, NOT slathering potentially dangerous stuff onto your skin.⠀⁣
⠀⁣
The root cause of eczema is a disturbance in your immune system. Your body is overreacting to something attacking you or inside you. ⠀⁣
⠀⁣
Let me be more specific. If I had to narrow down eczema to two primary causes, I would say: Leaky gut or abnormal gut flora. ⠀⁣
⠀⁣
1. Try my elimination diet. The two most common and harmful food sensitivities are gluten and dairy. My 10-Day Detox Diet eliminates these along with sugary, processed foods, resulting in reduced inflammation and results in just 10 days.⠀⁣
⠀⁣
2. Eat plenty of wild-caught fish and a colorful array of plant foods, and use spices like turmeric liberally. Fish oil and curcumin are among my favorite anti-inflammatory supplements.⠀⁣
⠀⁣
3. Prebiotics, probiotics and digestive enzymes are among the things I use to normalize healthy gut flora. Please keep in mind it may become necessary to work with a Functional Medicine practitioner to address gut issues, but removing food sensitivities and incorporating gut-healing nutrients are entirely within your power. ⠀⁣
⠀⁣
Restoring normal gut flora reduces overall immune activation and many inflammatory diseases including asthma, eczema, rhinitis and inflammatory bowel disease.⠀⁣
⠀⁣
4. Studies show sleep loss fuels the flames of inflammation, exacerbating eczema and other conditions. That’s among the many reasons you want to aim for eight hours of quality, uninterrupted sleep every night.⠀⁣
⠀⁣
And make sure to supplement daily with fish oil, evening primrose oil, and vitamins D and A. ⠀⁣
⠀⁣
5. Studies show regular exercise reduces inflammation and boosts your immune system. You can try yoga, go for a walk, hike, or bike ride.⠀⁣
⠀⁣
6. Besides making you absolutely miserable, studies link chronic stress levels with inflammation. Whether you do meditation, deep breathing, yoga or another form of stress reduction, make it a priority and do it regularly.

In a study of heart disease, people who consumed diet drinks every day had a greater risk of diabetes and metabolic syndrome. Artificial sweeteners have proven to be carcinogenic in animal studies. They wreak havoc on your gut microbes, destroying beneficial bacteria and causing glucose intolerance. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Something that tastes sweet but contains zero calories may sound like the perfect cure for sugar addiction. But it’s not, and here’s why. Normally, when you eat or drink something sweet, it’s accompanied by lots of calories. But not when you consume artificial sweeteners. This confuses your brain. It senses that the taste of sugar without the accompanying calories from glucose and fructose is wrong, and it tries to correct the imbalance by making you hungrier. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Not only that, but it also confuses and slows your metabolism down, so you burn less calories every day.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Bottom line: There is no free ride. Diet drinks are not good substitutes for sugar-sweetened drinks. They still (or even more) increase cravings, weight gain, and type 2 diabetes. And they are addictive.⁣⁣

Here’s the bad news/good news.⁣⁣

Eating sugar and refined carbs can cause pre-dementia and dementia. But cutting out the sugar and refined carbs and adding lots of fat can prevent, and even reverse, pre-dementia and early dementia. Sugar causes pre-diabetes and diabetes, which often leads to significant memory loss.

Chronic stress takes a toll on your body and brain. Stress shrinks the hippocampus, the memory center of the brain. So, find your pause button every day and make time for some stress relief. Relaxation isn’t a luxury if you want to prevent or reverse dementia. Whether that involves deep breathing, meditation, or yoga, find something that helps you calm down.

Lack of sleep can cause impaired brain function, leading to CRAFT syndrome, which stands for “can’t remember a _____ thing.” Studies show poor sleep becomes a risk factor for cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s disease. Aim for at least 8 hours of quality sleep every night.

We now know that physical activity can prevent and even slow down the progression of cognitive decline and brain diseases like dementia. Even a 30-minute walk can help. More active readers might want to incorporate high-intensity interval training or weight lifting.
