TUCU - Salt With Attitude

TUCU - Salt With Attitude Honest to goodness, natural, hand-harvested salt from the mountain springs of Ba'Kelalan Best of all, you are eating 'good salt' that loves you back!

Salt is the mother of all kitchen condiments, and also one of the most easily available. But we are not talking about the 'killer salt' like iodized, chemically laced table salt or even the sea salt (which is considered a slightly better alternative) but with all the pollution and toxic waste dumped into the sea, the sea salt has now lost its lustre. We are talking about Borneo's best kept secret,

the Tucu Salt from Ba'kelalan. To find out more about where TUCU Salt comes from, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ba'kelalan

Tucu Salt comes with a tint of greyish hue, and is harvested in small batches by the womenfolk from collected mountain spring water. The water is boiled over wood fire containers in 6-8 hour shifts and the salt deposits are finally collected. Every packet of TUCU Salt contributes to the uplifting of livelihood of the native villages in the remote mountains of Ba'Kelalan. Tucu Salt comes in 9 artisan flavors, such as Au-natural Tucu Salt, Sarawak cracked pepper, kaffir lime, turmeric, roasted garlic, coriander seeds, basil leaves, lemongrass and ginger. And more Xmas Market news: Interested in environmentally sustainable architecture?

We are excited to present on the last day of our Xmas Market the design consultants for Tadika Pawah, the wonderful team at DNA, who will conduct a casual forum for those interested in learning more about or exchanging ideas on the topic - a necessity for any effective design for Tadika Pawah given the constraints of no electricity and water only from surrounding sources.

Lim Siok Hong of Persatuan Perkembangan Pendidikan Orang Pribumi (the organization behind Tadika Pawah and three other Penan kindergartens) will also be there to speak briefly at the start so anyone interested in rural community development or rural education might want to check this out too.

All welcome – come for a Sunday afternoon teatime chit-chat. Snacks will be provided! We will be at The Lounge at The Spring (opposite Starbucks).
