We did it—our first-ever collab at LEPAU on the Hill! 🖌️

Brushes came out.
Creativity flowed.
Phones stayed away.

We were all so engrossed in the creative process that we almost forgot to take photos, which honestly is probably the best sign of a good time. 😂

A big thank you to Sarah from Simple Lettering for making our Introduction to Brush Calligraphy class such a fun experience… and to everyone who joined and supported us. ❤️

We loved seeing the space come alive in a completely different way.

Hopefully, this is just the first of many.

Our first LEPAU on the Hill collab is here! 🎉

And we’re starting with something beautifully creative.

Join Sarah from Simple Lettering for a fun “Introduction to Brush Calligraphy” workshop during the school holidays.

Perfect for children, adults and complete beginners.

It’s also a lovely activity for retirees who want to practise their fine motor skills, keep their minds active and discover a relaxing new hobby.

This is the first of what we hope will be many collaborations with local businesses and creative talents. We’re excited to make LEPAU on the Hill a space where people can share what they love with our community. ❤️

Weekend recap:

1. Schools are closed due to the “jerebu”, adding yet another headache for parents with school-going children as they rack their brains over “siapa jaga my anak?” while their phones and tablets are hijacked for PdPR.
2. MATTA Fair Kuching 2026 is happening this weekend at BCCK. Where should we travel to next?
3. The Sultan of Pahang is in town for a three-day official visit, and there has been a lot of “bunyi siren” around town lately. Mariah rasa.
4. Kuching hosted PATA Travel Mart 2026 this past week, welcoming more than 1,100 delegates from 48 countries. That’s a lot of visitors! It was wonderful to know that many of them tried Sarawak food—and most probably loved it too.
5. We received an award! We were recognised as one of Sarawak’s Top 25 Restaurants, alongside many of our own favourite restaurants. Best nya !!

We feel truly blessed and honoured to be recognised alongside so many wonderful local restaurants that have worked tirelessly to put Sarawak on the culinary map.

A couple of weeks ago, we shared our honest journey about building the right team. We didn’t expect the overwhelming response that followed.

To everyone who applied, shared our post, tagged your friends, or sent us words of encouragement… THANK YOU!! It truly means a lot to us.

We also want to be honest about what happened next.

Although many people submitted applications, only a handful turned up for their interview. Like many employers today, we know recruitment isn’t always easy. It can be disappointing, but it’s part of the journey of building a great team.

Despite that, we’re grateful that we managed to welcome several wonderful individuals who have now filled some of our important roles. To those joining the Lepau family… welcome ♥️. We can’t wait to grow together.

We’re still hiring because our journey isn’t simply about filling vacancies. It’s about building a team rooted in preserving Sarawak’s rich heritage and culture through genuine hospitality. We believe the people behind every plate are just as important as the food itself.

Behind every great restaurant is a great team.

And if we’re being honest…

Building one hasn’t been easy.

Over the years, we’ve made mistakes in hiring. We’ve hired too quickly. We’ve hired the wrong people. We’ve made decisions that, looking back, we wish we had handled differently.

We’re still learning.

Building a team of passionate Sarawakians who share the same pride in our heritage isn’t simple. Finding people who care deeply about hospitality, who want to grow, who choose teamwork over ego, and who believe in serving something bigger than themselves is one of the hardest things we’ve ever done.

But we’re not giving up.

Because we believe Sarawak deserves a restaurant that doesn’t just preserve our food… it also develops our people.

So we’re looking for those few individuals who are ready to build something meaningful with us.

Not just people looking for a job.

People looking for a place to belong.

A place where you’ll be challenged, supported, trusted, and given opportunities to grow.

We won’t promise perfection.

We’re still learning every day.
