Nearly 10 years, one purpose.

When Makoto began in 2016, a restaurant dedicated to authentic unagi cuisine was something rarely seen in Malaysia.

We started with a simple purpose — to bring the tradition and craft of Japanese unagi to Malaysia.

Nearly a decade later, that purpose has never faded.

The same team, the same spirit, and the same purpose continue to guide us today.

No shortcuts. No change in direction. We simply keep doing it, refining it, and practising the same craft every day.

2016年，Makoto 誠鰻屋在马来西亚开始营业。当时，专注于正宗日式鳗鱼料理的餐厅并不多见。

我们的初衷很简单——
把传统日式鳗鱼料理的技艺与精神带到马来西亚。

近十年过去了，这份初衷从未改变。

还是同一个团队，同一份坚持，同一个初衷。

不走捷径，也不改变方向。

🇯🇵 UNAGI MASTER CHEF OTANI RETURNS TO MAKOTO 🇯🇵

Following his memorable visit in March 2026, Makoto's Executive Chef, Unagi Master Chef Otani Shinichiro will be returning to Makoto on 22 August 2026 (Saturday).

With over 30 years of unagi craftsmanship, Chef Otani will once again be at Makoto to personally lead the team in preparing authentic Kanto-style unagi. This is a rare opportunity to experience Chef Otani's craftsmanship in person and enjoy authentic Japanese unagi prepared under his personal supervision.

On 22 August, the menu will feature traditional unagi, accompanied by a selection of appetizers, keeping the focus on the authentic unagi experience.

Observed once a year, it is a special day when people across Japan enjoy unagi to stay energized during the summer.

Funny enough, Sweet Garden Dining Cafe and Makoto are both 10 years old this year! 🎉 Maybe that's why we get along so well — we're both officially old enough to know better, but still young enough to keep serving great food! 😆
