Drinks : 3.1/5

Strawberry Lime ( RM 13.0O ) The strawberry was too sweet and it actually overpowered the lime. I almost couldn’t
get the lime. Overall, it’s too sweet.

-

Honey Oat Latte ( RM 16.00 ) First, the coffee was bitter, and quite unpleasant lingering. The honey was too overpowering and unbalance with the oat milk.

-

Iced Black Coffee ( RM 12.00 ) The coffee was flat and bitter, got a little bit of dry grass aftertaste.

Food : 3.3/5

Teriyaki Salmon Bento ( RM 25.00 ) Salmon tastes good, the outside texture was crispy, and soft in the inside. But I think if give a little bit more teriyaki sauce will be better, because it’s a little bit dry.

-

Shoyu Ramen ( RM 20.00 ) The soy soup was quite balance and not too salty. The chicken was tender and soft, if marinate a little bit more might be perfect. Overall it was quite good.

-

Matcha Orange ( RM 13.00 ) The pastry was a bit dry and dense, inside part got a little bit undercooked as the texture was soggy.

-

Lemon Meringue Croissant ( RM 13.00 ) Tastes sweet but I can still feel the texture of an undissolved sugar from the meringue. The croissant also dense and not crispy

-

Dirty Matcha Croissant ( RM 13.00 ) The croissant was also dense and hard to chew, but the cream and the matcha are quite good, the cream is not too sweet and actually balanced out the matcha bitterness.

-

Chicken Katsu Curry Rice ( RM 22.00 ) The chicken katsu is crunchy on the outside and tender inside. It was good actually, just the chicken tastes plain, and lack of seasoning. The curry tastes good and not too spicy and not too sweet. The rice is perfectly cooked. Good portion definitely gonna come back for this one.

-

Ambience/Environment : 4/5
The ambience was nice and comfortable

-

Service : 3/5
Nothing special, overall the service is just okay.

-

Value For Money : 3/5
Based on the taste, portion and price, I think some of the food are still worth the money. Just the drinks and pastry a bit disappointing.

Drinks: 3.25/5

Espresso Shaken (RM15) The grapefruit overpowered the espresso, barely taste the espresso and elderflower. A bit of unpleasant dryness for the body.

-

Espresso Orange Tonic (RM15) It tastes more like an orange juice, the coffee was too weak. Overall it’s quite refreshing.

-

Naughty Matcha (RM15) The Espresso tastes too weak. Overall the flavour so weak and diluted, and the mouthfeel was a bit dry. Very disappointed on this one.

-

Summer Sparkling (RM18) You can tastes the pineapple in the beginning, and orange at the back. Nice touch on the garnish, and overall the flavours are refreshing.

-

Kyoto Matcha (RM14) Love the Latte Art, but slightly underfill. The aroma was nice, smooth and creamy texture. Not too sweet, but I think the drink will taste better if add a little bit of strength on the flavour. The aftertaste could be longer.

Food: 3.5/5

French Butter Croissant (RM11) Crispy on the outside, but the inside was soggy. Nothing special. A bit overpriced for the quality and size.

Matcha Croissant (RM12) The Matcha Croissant was good. The texture was quite crispy on the outside, and fluffy on the inside. You can get the matcha taste. Overall the flavours was just nice.

Chocolate Burnt Cheesecake (RM14) The dark chocolate was good. Creamy texture but still a little bit dry. Overall it was quite good. Just slightly small for its portion.

Matcha Burnt Cheesecake (RM 14) Tastes weird. Very weird. The cheesecake tastes like matcha and cheddar. Lack of sweetness and the aftertaste was unpleasant.

-

Coconut Pandan Cake (RM22) The combination of coconut and pandan works very well. Well balanced. Very some and fluffy sponge cake. Very good.

-

Paris Brest (RM19) Crunchy mouthfeel and strong nutty taste, the vanilla paste and the macadamia works very well. Not too sweet and overall the flavours are well-balanced.

-

Matcha Choux (RM19) Highly recommend! The matcha filling tastes so good, and also crunchy textures. Will definitely come back for this one.

-

Ambience/Environment : 3/5

The ambience was nice, the toilet is clean and comfortable. But the seating is a bit limited.
-

Service: 1.75/5

The service was okay, nothing special, but the 10% service charge is way too much for this kind of normal service, so i dont think it’s worth it.

-

Value For Money: 2/5

Based on the taste, portion and service, the price is overpriced for me.

Drinks: 1.5/5

Filter Coffee (RM12) Coffee tastes bitter and I don’t get any fruitiness from the coffee at all. The aftertaste is like woody.

-

Hot Cappuccino (RM11) The cappuccino has low sweetness, also taste grassy and woody. No lingering at all. The Coffee was underfilled

-

Food: 1.8/5

Mexico Coffee Bun (RM2.30) There was no coffee taste and inside of the bun is empty. I can’t get any butter taste and the bun is too dense.

Pandan Cheesecake (RM12) The pandan is too weak and the honey does not match well with the pandan. And the portion is too small.

Teriyaki Chicken Rice (RM16) The chicken was okay and tender. But overall everything was lack of seasoning.

Aussie Artisan Brunch (RM 18) The Croissant was dense and not soft. Sweet potato was not enough seasoning, everything tastes flat.

-

Ambience/Environment : 1/5

There was no improvement, the toilet was dirty when I was there. And the toilet door need to be fixed, I had trouble closing the toilet door.

-

Service: 1/5

Not sure why but when I went to the counter to order, the staff doesn’t look friendly and the experience was not nice at all.
-

Value For Money: 1/5

Definitely not worth it. I came back just to check if there’s an improvement with the food and drinks, but no. There was no changes at all

Cappuccino (RM12) The coffee has a very unpleasant aftertaste, mouldy and herbal tastes lingering in my mouth after I swallow.

-

Matcha Caramel Espresso (RM16) Has a really nice caramel smell, but the elements combination are not balanced. Tastes more like a matcha latte.

-

Orange Tonic Coffee (RM16) Tastes like sour plum, heavy tonic taste. Cannot get the coffee at all. For me the combination is also not balance. The dryness and woody tastes came out after drink. The portion slightly small for its price.

-

Filter Coffee (RM15) Ethiopia Sidamo. Hints of orange and brown sugar. The flavours a bit weak, astringency and lingering bitterness, herbal and woody.

-

Rose Lychee Tonic Coffee (RM16) The Lychee syrup was too strong and too sweet. The coffee and rose tastes so weak, it’s like drinking normal Lychee soda. The portion was too small and overpriced.

-

Food: 1.75/5

Creamy Mushroom Basil with Smoked Duck (RM21) Very weak mushroom flavour, and overpowering basil. The sauce was watery, but not creamy. The pasta was over cooked. However the smoked duck was good. But I don’t understand why pasta served in a bowl, just like a bowl of noodle soup.

Grilled Chicken Egg Sandwich (RM15) The sandwich bread tastes oily, they stated on the menu that they are using special sauce, but tastes like normal soya sauce. The chicken portion is too small.

Beef Bolognaise Pasta (RM20) The pasta is over cooked, sauce tastes bland and watery. And lastly, I found a strand of hair mixed with the pasta. That is unacceptable !!!

-

Ambience/Environment : 3.25/5

The toilet is quite nice, the environment is quite good, some of the tables are not suitable for food.

-

Service: 1.75/5

I asked for iced water, and they say they will send to my table but they never come.

-

Value For Money: 1.75/5

Very disappointed on the quality of the drinks and food. Overpriced as well. Hygiene problem.

-

Food: 4/5

Mini Orange Yuzu Cake (RM 18) Creamy with orange and yuzu flavour but nothing special. Slightly expensive.

-

Mini Bouncy Caramel (RM 18) Not too sweet, very strong egg flavour, creamy, smooth, nice texture. Good combination. Slightly expensive.

As a food reviewer who loves coffee, I always wanted to do unbiased and unsponsored REAL and HONEST reviews.

Trying out the food and drinks of different coffee shops and cafes with my own hard earned money. Always try to review as honest and detail as I can.

But I didn’t know that some of the Kota Kinabalu’s F&B owners couldn’t take honest review and they see online reviews as complaints and cyber bullies.

How pathetic is our local F&B industry and local coffee industry?

Apparently people are spreading rumours about me saying that I am actually one of the local coffee roastery owner, Mr Duncan Lim.

I would like to clarify that Duncan Lim is not the admin of The Little White Hamster

I’m so sorry that Duncan Lim actually get affected by my honest reviews on some of the cafes which supply coffee beans as well.

That’s sad to hear that some cafe bosses just simply accuse Duncan Lim and Madness Roastworks just because of the competition of coffee beans supply market.

So, to the people who spend more time spreading rumours, I suggest that you better focus your time and effort improving your food and drink quality, and service. Pay more attention to your business, because I will keep on coming to your place and check on you.

Please stop spreading rumours, that will just make you look like a loser.

Sincerely,

The Little White Hamster

Hot Latte (RM 12) The coffee tastes weak, no flavour, and not balance. Basically it just tastes like milk.

-

Ice Americano (RM 9) The coffee tastes diluted, very light body, and tastes burnt and bitter. Got no flavour and hollow.

-

Baileys Irish Latte (RM 16.90) The combination is quite good, coffee and alcohol is quite balanced, but the whipped cream was a bit too much and it actually ruined the drink.

-

Hot Cappuccino (RM 10) Overall the coffee tastes weak and not balance. The coffee has no flavour.

-

Food: 3.4/5

Chicken Katsu Sandwich (RM 13.90) Although the chicken tastes okay, but the plating is a bit weird, the salad and tomato was put on the side instead of inside the sandwich.

-

Teriyaki Chicken Rice (RM 16.90) The chicken texture was quite good, tender and juicy. The sauce was good, but maybe can add a bit more rice.

-

Butter Chicken Spaghetti (RM 18.90) The butter tastes good and the chicken tastes nice, crispy on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside, but maybe can add a bit more the spaghetti.

Hot Cappucino (RM 12) Weak in flavours, low sweetness, grassy and bitter aftertaste.

-

Hot Latte (RM 12) Nice latte art but tasted horrible. Strong grassy flavours and grassy aftertaste. One of the worst latte I’ve ever had.

-

Ice Americano (RM 11) Hints of Berries acidity, low sweetness, low body, grassy aftertaste.

-

Hot Matcha (RM 12) Matcha was good, well balanced, sweet and creamy.

-

El Salvador Finca Las Burmas Filter Coffee (RM 15) Low acidity, low sweetness, light body, very herbal & grassy aftertaste, high bitterness. Taste like Chinese herbal medicine. Very disgusting.

-

Food: 2/5

Pixelated Signature Breakfast (RM 16) Sausages and smoked duck tasted good. Lack of seasoning for the scrambled egg and mushrooms. The sourdough was hard.

-

Sweet & Sour Rye Open Sandwich (RM 15) Bread was soft. But the combination of flavours were weak.

-

Cranberry Sourdough Planked Salmon (RM 25) Interesting, but the concept doesn’t blend well together. The salmon was dry and not seasoned at all. I didn’t taste any cranberry for the bread, and the pesto was too salty.

-

Pain Au Chocolate (RM 9) Very oily and soggy. Not crispy at all. Chocolate chips were way too little, total just 4 little chocolate chips in the RM 9 Pain Au Chocolate. Definitely overpriced for the taste and quality.

-

Burnt Cheesecake (RM 15) Cheesecake was dry and rough, texture was not creamy and smooth. Weak flavours and small portion. You can get much more better quality burnt cheesecake easily in other cafes with this price.

-

Ambience/Environment: 3/5

Comfortable environment. Parking is a problem as very limited parking spaces available.

-

Service: 2.5/5

Service was okay. Only accept cash or personal account bank transfer, but not card payment or QR pay, seems like not ready for proper business operation yet.

-

Value for Money: 2/5

Popular for its β€œone half coffee / doudoubake” style interior design. Coffees and food were both disappointed and overpriced for the portion and quality.
