Our founder was from Hainan Island and worked as the chef of British District Officer in Malaya in the 50s. Established the Choon Guan Cafe in 1956 that serves fusion of Western & Hainanese dishes. Today, the THIRD GENERATION of CHOON GUAN serves the old recipe of Hainanese Chicken ri

Good Hainanese chicken rice isn’t complicated.

It simply takes patience.

We use free-range kampung chicken, gently poached to preserve its natural sweetness and tender texture.

Our rice is cooked with chicken broth, pandan leaves and ginger, creating the fragrant aroma that makes every bite satisfying—even before the chicken.

Every plate is served with our homemade chili sauce, made to complement the chicken rather than overpower it.

Every name has a story.

Ours began in 1956, when our founder, Foo Hee Hong, opened a humble Hainanese coffee shop in Klang.

Back then, our Chinese name was 春園 (Spring Garden).

One day, a loyal customer shared a simple but meaningful thought:

「春天的花園，要有人，才會更美。」
A spring garden becomes more beautiful when there are people in it.

He suggested adding the 人 (person) radical to the character 春, transforming it into 偆.

It wasn’t just a change of a Chinese character.

It became a reminder of what Choon Guan truly stands for.

A beautiful garden is never created by buildings alone.

It is created by the people who fill it with warmth, conversations, laughter and memories.

Over the decades, our story has been shared in newspapers, our coffee has reached more homes through retail, and we’ve continued to grow while staying true to the values that shaped us from the very beginning.

At Choon Guan Hainan Coffee 1956, we roast differently.

We use less caramel and let the coffee beans do the work.

That’s why our coffee looks lighter in colour, yet leaves a richer aroma after every sip.
