Another new coffee have just landed on our website. Washed Ethiopia Bensa, an elegant washed process coffee.
The Bensa woreda (village) is located in the Sidama Zone, which is in the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples’ Region (SNNPR). The region has many microclimates and unique landrace varieties that contribute to the complex and varying cup profiles.
Upon arriving to the washing station, these washed batches are floated to separate low-density cherries and discarded to remove the peel. It is then sent to fermentation to remove the mucilage, which can take up to 72 hours, during which time the water is changed 3 times. After fermentation, the coffee floats again and is then transferred to a bed to dry, which takes about 12 days, depending on weather conditions. Once completely dry, the coffee travels over 8 hours to Addis Ababa, where it is hulled, sorted by color and bagged for export.
