🇲🇾 USM Students’ Hidden Supper Spot?! 😱 Incredibly Affordable Local Eats!

We found a hidden local food gem near USM, Sungai Dua, Penang! 🤩 One night we were craving supper and randomly walked into this place. From the outside, it looked pretty ordinary, but wow, the food completely exceeded our expectations! ✨

📍Located just minutes from USM, it’s super convenient and even stays open until late at night. No wonder it feels like a favorite supper spot for university students! 👀

😍 The menu has so many choices! 🍜 From Penang Hokkien Mee, Wantan Mee, and Laksa, to Mala Xiang Guo where you can customize your own ingredients. Plus, there are plenty of other local Malaysian favorites too!

✨ Best of all, the food tastes authentic and brings out the familiar flavors Penang locals love. The prices are also incredibly affordable, making it a perfect spot for students!

🇲🇾 From QB Mall to Gurney Plaza, and after moving several times, this nostalgic Penang restaurant is now tucked away in a small shop along King Street, but the childhood memories are still the same! 😍

🥣 Their classic signature Chopper Soup is still here! They also offer lunch sets, making it a popular spot among office workers. Nowadays, they focus more on Nyonya cuisine, with a more traditional “order dishes and share a meal” concept.

But I do miss their old favourites like the Mushroom Soup and Hainan Fish, seems like they are no longer available 🥹

✨ The flavours are still on point! Every Nyonya dish was well-executed and delicious. The prices are affordable, and the desserts were nicely balanced, not overly sweet or heavy. If you enjoy desserts with a lighter and more natural taste, this place is definitely worth trying!

👨🏻 The owner was incredibly warm and friendly. We happened to visit during durian season, and he even opened some durians for us to enjoy and gifted us a few desserts too! This kind of genuine hospitality is truly rare and heartwarming. ❤️

🇲🇾 Penang’s viral Japanese Shokupan toast cafe! 🐼☕✨

☕️ The name says sad panda but walking in here you’d feel anything but sad! Relaxed and comfortable vibes all around, perfect for working, studying, or just completely switching off~ Opens in the morning but currently only runs until the afternoon, so plan accordingly!

The menu leans toward Japanese-Western fusion, beyond the signature toast, there’s also pasta and Japanese rice bowls to choose from. More variety than you’d expect!

🍰 Was specifically looking forward to the Cheesecake and Strawberry Sandwich that morning, only to find out they sold out the night before and hadn’t been made yet… heartbreaking 😭

This time we ordered:

✨ The sandwiches absolutely live up to the name, reasonably priced, generously portioned and genuinely satisfying! The Japanese egg version can get a little rich after a while though, so sharing is recommended~ Every drink delivered without a single letdown!

This Chinese dessert shop has already opened two outlets in Penang, with another outlet currently under renovation at QB Mall~ 🔥

From traditional Chinese desserts, matcha creations, to their Musang King Cendol 😍
Tthere are so many choices that it’s hard to decide what to order!

🇲🇾 Penang OG Ramen Spot has upgraded their menu! 🤩 With over 10+ ramen dishes and even sushi selection platter! 😍

🍜 I came back to Shinwa Ramen after some time, and I was honestly surprised. The last time I was here, they only had one ramen flavour. Fast forward to today, and they now have more than 10 ramen options, along with sushi, donburi, and plenty of side dishes.

🤩 I tried some of their signature items and gave my honest ratings, from their signature Kumamoto Ramen to their premium sushi selection. Is Shinwa Ramen now one of the best ramen spots in Penang? Watch till the end and let me know what you think in the comments! 👇

XO Ice Full Flavour Ranking 🍦 Which Ones Are Worth Buying?
🍨 Finally worked my way through almost the entire XO Ice lineup 🍦 Just my personal opinion, not everyone will agree 😂

🥇 The Coco Carat 🥥
Super fragrant coconut flavour with just the right amount of caramel. It’s the only flavour with added sugar, but it’s also my absolute 🏆.
🥈 Goood Morning Vietnaaam! ☕️
Rich coffee aroma with chocolate chunks that add a nice crunch and texture.
🥉 Open Sesame 🖤
Deep, nutty black sesame flavour with a creamy, milky finish. It gets better with every bite.
4️⃣ Bubblely Hills 🧋
Tastes like milk tea ice cream with chewy pearls inside. A little mild, but the pearls make it fun to eat.
5️⃣ Takes One-To Mango 🥭
Not too sweet, though it has a slightly artificial mango taste.
6️⃣ Mucho Matcha 🍵
Creamy and milky, but I wish the matcha flavour was stronger.
7️⃣ Seriously Chocolate 🍫
The chocolate tastes a bit too much like protein powder—not really my favourite.
8️⃣ Nociobella 🌰
Just a hint of hazelnut. Pretty mild and not very memorable.
9️⃣ Not-So-Plain Vanilla 🤍
Also has a slight protein powder taste. Creamy, but quite basic.
❌ Gingerly Chocolate
The ginger and chocolate combo just didn’t work for me.
❌ King Don’t Lie
The durian flavour is quite subtle. The texture is somewhat like durian, but I wouldn’t repurchase it.

✨ Overall, XO Ice isn’t very sweet, so it’s great if you prefer lower-sugar, healthier-tasting ice cream. If it’s your first time, I’d definitely start with my Top 3! 🤍

☕️ Not the kind of place chasing viral aesthetics or photo-worthy interiors, what it delivers instead is a genuinely comfortable and relaxed atmosphere, perfect for working, studying, or just switching off completely! The food and drink selection is surprisingly extensive too~

🍵 Matcha lovers will be in their element here, beyond a full range of matcha drinks and desserts, they even carry their own in-house matcha powder to bring home!

📍 Fifty Five Percent Cafe

🍰 The Matcha Platter is a matcha lover’s dream! With matcha ice cream, matcha cake, matcha pudding, vanilla ice cream, red bean paste and a Croffle all in one plate. Absolutely packed with content!

🍗 The chicken chop comes in grilled or fried, tender and full of flavour either way, you really can’t go wrong!

✨ 🍝 The pasta is a real standout visually, two colours of spaghetti twisted together, and the Aglio Olio flavour actually delivers! The crispy fish on the side pairs really well with it.

🍗 This Western restaurant has been standing strong right next to INTI College for 7 years now! Halal certified, and always buzzing with people whenever you walk past~

😮 The crowd favourite seems to be their Platter, which comes loaded on one massive plate! Looks incredibly generous, but I chickened out this time worried I couldn’t finish it 😅 The cakes are outsourced, something to keep in mind for dessert lovers~

✨ The Secret Ingredient Pasta has a curry-based sauce at its core, which makes it genuinely unique and worth trying if you’re feeling adventurous! The rest of the food was decent overall, though leaning on the heavier side~ Portions were slightly on the smaller end and pricing felt a little steep, making the two feel slightly out of balance~ That said, the coffee was genuinely good and absolutely worth ordering!
