the kind of meal we grew up with. and with suett growing up in kajang, she knew one thing was missing โ€” satay. so we added what kajang is best known for to something we already love dearly.

pair it with our seasonal drink to complete the mealโ€” hor ka sai, also known as dylanโ€™s usual kopitiam order. rich, nostalgic and something heโ€™s been drinking since young.

winter solstice (dongzhi) has always been about family โ€” gathering on the longest night, sharing a bowl of tangyuan, and reminding ourselves that we are whole when weโ€™re together.

this year, we keep that ritual but add espresso โ€” a little bitterness, a little warmth โ€” to reflect how traditions evolve with us. a small change while the meaning stays the same.
